I don’t recommend using H&R Block. Ever. I went to the H&R Block in Saline and they charged an astronomical amount of over $400 for filing a low income and simple tax return that took less than an hour. I made under $30k as a 1099 worker and everything in my return was straightforward. No rental properties, no dependents, no foreign bank accounts, etc. Alex, the manager/owner of this office, filed my return for me. I asked him DIRECTLY before leaving the appointment, should I expect a tax bill for fees and penalties from the IRS, as the filing was for a previous tax year, and he reassured me that I would NOT. Since this was my first time using a tax accountant, and he IS the accountant after all, I trusted his word. But here we are, two months later with an $1100+ bill from the IRS. I emailed Alex kindly with a copy of the bill but he wasn’t quick to respond. I had to send a second email 3 days later to prompt a response, and when he finally did get back to me, all he said was I need to pay the bill personally. No other support, assistance, or apology was offered. I reminded him of our conversation in his office but he never responded. It’s poor customer service and bad business practice to bill a client over $400 for a simple tax filing, give them false information, & send them off with a false sense of security. I don’t trust to use any H&R Block office again. If you need a tax accountant, go somewhere else that's trustworthy & doesn’t charge a ridiculous amount. IRS.gov is a great option for 100% free filing.
Side note, the AI generated response below is a joke. Again, terrible customer service!

Went in to H&R block for the first time today. They were wonderful. I had Alex Gates. He was thorough, informative, and extremely helpful with everything. I will be returning next year and I highly recommend.

Alexander Gates of the H&R Block in Saline, MI was outstanding, and I recommend everyone to do their taxes with him! This was my first-year filing by myself and he made me feel comfortable and explained the entire process to me. He takes pride in making sure he does his job well and can handle just about any crazy tax situation you may have!!

Absolute worst experience with this company! Our taxes were never filed on time and stored away in a "side drawer" somehow. After then trying to backdate the date of submission, late fees were then associated with our taxes. Azmina told me she would take care of it and get this settle. After many weeks, Azmina then told us that she was approved to have the taxes paid and sent us a check for the taxes ALONG WITH A 1099 to then be TAXED ON OUR LATE FEES when this was entirely her fault. Azmina claims the check is "income" when this is 100% fault on her side for not filling our taxes on time.I'd advise EVERYONE TO STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE and find somewhere/someone else to go and get your taxes done. ABSOLUTE JOKE of customer service and as an H&R Block employee to tax others on what is the employee/H&R Block's fault.
