July 2025 by Poo Loo
If sadness opened a store and forgot to mop for 7 years, it would be this Dollar General.
I came in looking for toothpaste and left with PTSD.
The parking lot is just gravel and regrets. Half the stripes are faded, so I wasn’t sure if I parked in a spot or on the remains of a former employee. I walked in and was immediately greeted by a wall of heat, the kind that makes you question if the store has AC or if they’re just trying to slow-cook customers. It smelled like expired Pine-Sol, melted plastic, and something… emotional.
The first aisle was completely blocked by an avalanche of paper towels and Halloween candy from 2021. I tried to move it, but I think it was holding the entire structure together, like some kind of seasonal Jenga.
I asked an employee where the batteries were, and she just sighed like I asked her to solve world hunger. Then she pointed vaguely toward an aisle labeled “CANDY / PET SUPPLIES / POSSIBLY BATTERIES.”
There was a man arguing with a shelf in aisle four. I don’t think he worked there, but honestly, I don’t think anyone *does*. Employees appeared and vanished like ghosts — you'd spot one in the distance and by the time you got there, they were gone, probably absorbed by the shelves.
The freezer section was 90% frost, 10% sadness. I opened a door to get frozen waffles and found a single Hot Pocket sitting there like it was in time-out.
The checkout line? Oh, don’t get me started. One register open. The cashier was a teenage philosopher in pajama pants, and she was in *no* hurry. The line wrapped through three aisles and I got to know the people in it like we were in line for a theme park ride — except the ride was just existential despair.
Also, WHY is there Christmas stuff up in July? And why is half of it opened and sticky??
Final straw? I went to the bathroom. Or at least, what I *thought* was the bathroom. It was more like a dungeon from a survival horror game. There was a sink… I think. No soap. No paper towels. No door lock. Just a handwritten note that said “USE AT OWN RISK” and a mysterious wet floor that wasn’t wet so much as… moist with secrets.
If you're into treasure hunts, psychological horror, or abandoned building tours — this is the place for you.
Otherwise, run.

The belief that you can go to a Dollar General for a 'quick trip.' Does not exist here. You'll never see the same cashier twice, the turnover rate is astonishing. The store is littered with unopened stock and the line is unbelievably slow.

September 2024 by Justin Persing
Just went here at 7 pm September 19th, 2024, for 1 single bag of chips, and they had buy 2 get 2 free. So I got 4, rang up paid, and noticed on my receipt that they didn't give me my discount and overcharged me by $7 dollars. There was a $2 discount. I never left the checkout and asked for it to be fixed, and I was told she couldn't fix or return my items so I could just get one. I was told to come back tomorrow and talk to the manager. They literally stole $7 from me. Also, there are always boxes setting everywhere in the isles and hardly any staff, and the store is filthy dirty.

I was going to start a job at this location, during my interview the manager Caleb told me that he has never really interviewed people before and to just talk with him. During the conversation he told me he would be able to hire me in a assistant manager and I would be getting 14.50 an hour, a few days passed, I go in and Gove him my stuff foe the i9 paperwork, he then starts telling me that the customers in somerset are rude and he don't care about customer service and to just get them out of his store. I didn't say much then but thought that was odd for a store manager to say, then he tells me once I'm done with my video training I'll be on the register as a lead cashier and I would only be getting $11.00 an hour, again not what he hired me in as or told me what my rate of pay was, I asked if there would be training days on the registers and he said no, and that if we can't learn by videos it's not his place to train us if we can't pick up basic things from a video. I stated that not all people learn only by videos and that some need more hands on training he laughed and rolled his eyes. Then for about a week he would send me texts asking if I wanted to work certain days when I told him yes and that I would work the days he needed covered he wouldn't respond for hours then turn around and say sorry the other new guy needs hours too. After about 2 weeks of being in the system to work I hadn't had any shifts and then ones he would give me he would take away. Not only does he treat the customers rudely, he treats the workers worse, and thinks that he is the best thing that ever happened to that store, and in my opinion I won't work for a company with a management team that lies, refuses to train, and treats his workers like they are nothing. No wonder the somerset store can't keep people wanting to work there with the environment the way it is, I live extremely close to the somerset location and I would much rather drive 15 minutes to a more friendly environment, then the dollar general that is in my neighborhood and within walking distance of my home

This Dollar General has to be the worst shopping experience of my life! They never have anything, and the place is filthy ! The people that work there hang out in the office and make people wait to check out ! Good thing I could use the self check out !If they had competition they would be out of business !

New cashier girl with short dark hair always wears a hoodie is RUDE!!! 1st time I was waited on by her about a week ago. She was arguing with her friend/girlfriend in front of myself and other customers while we are waiting to be checked out. She acted like we were interrupting them. Just the other day I stopped in and she was working. Once again nasty attitude. She couldn't be bothered to say hello or even give me a total. She shoved my changed back at me barely said a word.Manager and another older lady who work their are sweethearts. I usually enjoy this store but if this chick is working I'll go elsewhere.
