locked in a 16 month contract of prices higher than planet fitness and La fitness but infinitely less things to do, use, or take advantage of. Planet fitness and La fitness allow you to cancel online but as someone who works past the gym hours i'm unable to cancel, so i have to lose out on money, to stop losing out on money to this garbage place. some machines are worn and the punching bag/activity room has always been closed anytime i go in. owner is a dick too, i can see why there's so many bad reviews, no wonder they lure you into a contract at a young age with the summer free, it's the only way to guarantee money for their sham of a gym. i should have been smarter and checked the reviews. making it almost impossible to work with these guys. not to mention you don't get as many guests as you want or you'll be trespassed, when you pay $6 more a month than planet fitness who lets you bring one person with you anytime. absolutely pathetic excuse of a gym, almost as bad as your little hole in the wall gyms. btw i got yelp just to take a dump on these guys. don't matter anyway they probably know how to pull reviews they're not happy with.

I was excited to begin my membership at Powerhouse Gym and begin a supervised regiment of weight training. My intention was to begin working out under the supervision of a highly trained, knowledgeable trainer. What I was introduced to was just the opposite. I called the Manager and requested to have the person who manages the trainers call me to set up a new appointment with a new trainer but no one ever returned my call. As a result, I didn't receive (but should've demanded) the direction I needed to fulfill my aspirations. Coupled with old, sometimes broken equipment, dirty/dingy workout areas and especially locker room, I seldom used my yearly membership. I recommend prior to signing a contract to really spend time evaluating this facility and more importantly benchmarking other nearby facilities to ensure you understand what you will have to live with until your contract expires.

Ron! Super classy man! NOT. Came to the gym with a friend as a guest haven’t been there in years. Quickly filled out the form said I never been there before. (Haven’t been a member in almost 4 years & was briefly a member because of Ron’s harassment follow up style, I had to block their number!) as I’m leaving to grab my ID he hands it to the front desk receptionist & screams through the gym “OH SHE LIED SHES BEEN HERE BEFORE” grow up Ron! No more powerhouse for me EVER!

This saint clair shores location gym is a joke.. near 3 years and dumbell weight is limited for people who wish to acquire more gains or strength. Staff ignores customer complaints when they are valid. People get pumped when they hear of new equipment till they learn it's trash no one uses. Gym panders to a demographic that is not the majority. Good thing I'm month to month and out of contract I can leave. I pay way too much monthly as it is. People have to jury rig dumbells by putting smaller dumbells criss cross further enabling an accident waiting to happen just get heavier lifts. Btw? Where are the 35 lbs plates? That's a gym standard at the 10 plus gyms I've been at in life or more. Cheap wobbly benches that'll fall over if you have more than 20 pounds.

Hate to do this, but this is not a quality or serious gym. They may have a lot of cleaning staff, but first off it’s a gym not a janitor facility.They have two squat racks that are badly set up. Nothing bolted to the ground, awkwardly placed so that you can’t even use them to rack weights. No kind of bumper system or platform for deadlifts.A lot of the other equipment just isn’t that impressive. Treadmills are old. Machines are all old.Came in today and they closed because the power was out, what a joke. Thought I was paying for a professional commercial gym not somebody’s garage.

Did not feel welcome coming in for a day pass. Front desk was immediately annoyed by us coming in. Over priced day passes. Facility and bathrooms were clean, good for a quick workout. I wouldn’t visit again because the staff member up front was unkind and judgy.

Extremely rude!!! Desk attendant was gossiping about my girlfriend and I. Extremely overpriced day passes, $40!!They were irritated when I paid with cash as well. Will not be returning.

This facility is clean, has wonderful staff, are helpful, and care about your overall health. The classes they offer are perfect for anyone starting out or that are advanced.

I WILL NEVER GO TO THIS GYM AGAIN.So I started this membership sometime last year. And I wanted to do the student discount because I was a student and I knew I probably couldn't have paid the extra money. I spoke to the manager Ron at the gym in Saint Clair Shores on Harper Ave. I told him that's the one I wanted to do, and I also asked him if I could possibly cancel my membership at any point because I knew I would eventually be going to university and they don't have a powerhouse gym in that area. He told me and my mother that I COULD CANCEL AT ANYTIME. So with that, I went forward with the process. So the first issue was that he put me down for the regular membership instead of the student membership. I was upset about this, but honestly I let it go since I had started to make more money anyway at the time. So fast forward a few months later, I was preparing to move to university. I didn't see a way to cancel my membership from the app, so I called the gym and a different manager, didn't catch his name-- and I asked him how I could cancel my membership since I was leaving town. He told me I could cancel it by emailing the gym. Ok, so I do that and a few days later I get an email typed in all caps saying that I cannot cancel because I'm still "under contract agreement"??? It said that I would still have to pay for the membership until July of 2023 and if I don't then the membership will not cancel. Of course I was extremely confused because I had been told by 2 other managers that I could cancel at ANYTIME and I was told this before I even agreed to the membership. I would never had signed up if I could not cancel because I knew I wouldn't be able to pay for it while in college. And boy was I right about that because I barely even managed to keep $1 in my bank account. So anyway, I called back and this time someone else told me that I couldn't cancel. Would have been nice to know that before I signed up!!! The guy told me I could freeze my account and just pay $5/month. Now this was a little better until I started being charged 28-31 dollars on my card because of "failed payment"? There would be days when I'd have more than $5 in my account on the payment date and it wouldn't charge me for that, but it would still charge about $30 ultimately leading to an overdraft in my account. When this happened I called the gym and every time I asked to speak to a manager, the person would say that there is no manager today and they could leave a message for them to call me back later. Surprise surprise, I never get a call back for the next few days!! I always ended up calling again and again at different times until FINALLY I talk to a manager. I explained everything that happened and he told me he wasn't seeing a fee on his end when he looked into my account. Then he said "oh well I see it but it's only $16".. Of course this confused me because that's clearly not what it said on my end. He ended up kind of brushing it off and saying If I have the $5 in my account by that upcoming Monday, the amount take off my account would be refunded back to me. Well, IT NEVER DID. I am absolutely so tired of calling over and over again about this same problem that has been going on for months and honestly, I just want to be done with this BS. I am not paying for this I absolutely refuse. I just want to cancel my membership with this awful place and never come back. This whole issue has put a lot of stress on me that I definitely do not need right now and the whole thing could have been avoided if I wasn't LIED TO ABOUT THE MEMBERSHIP. Clearly someone doesn't know how to do their job in this establishment because there is no way that there should be this much trouble and this much confusion because someone in this place keeps giving out the wrong information. I'm so done with this place honestly.
