TLDR: Rating 3 stars as work was performed within the time quoted. Price was almost $400 higher than any other quotes I received though, including their own.My vehicle (2014 Town and Country) had a check engine light come on, AutoZone said the thermostat was malfunctioning. I called 3 places for quotes. All Around Auto guy said they don’t do quotes over the phone. I understood and asked for a ballpark. He said they'd replace the thermostat, replace the radiator hoses, and do a coolant flush. For that, he said “it'll be a couple hundred bucks”. I said, “between $300-$500?” And he said “yeah, about there”. He also said they’d do a diagnostic check first before they do any work to ensure that was the problem and that costs $50 but it’s applied to the repairs. Second shop quoted me $225 for thermostat and $150 for radiator flush. No mention of hose replacement. Third shop said $250 for thermostat but he’d diagnose it first. He could do radiator flush for an extra $120 and would check hoses if they needed replacing at the time. So with 3 quotes all in the ballpark of each other, I decided to go with All Around Auto due to their proximity and their high ratings.I called Tuesday night and they said if I dropped off Thursday, I could get it by Friday. They open at 8am so I was there at 8:10am. At the counter, the guy told me that there was a mixup over the phone and that for mechanical checks, it’s a $50 diagnostic fee, but for "system diagnostics" (check engine lights?), it was a $150 fee. The guy told me that he would only charge me $50 but he just wanted to let me know for the future. Whatever, if it’s applied to the cost of repairs, what did I care. I left and I got a call from them at 5pm Thursday. They told me a number of things that needed service from their diagnostic check, which was appreciated but I declined all the additional services. I just wanted the thermostat and coolant flush. At that point, he told me the cost would be ~$780. I flipped out immediately. Guy told me that this is why they don’t do quotes over the phone. I asked if this was the exact thing they said they were going to do for $300-$500, what was now costing ~$780. He said, “Well we didn’t know exactly what it was going to cost until we started getting into it.” But that’s false because I gave him the vehicle Information and he gave me exactly the list of tasks they were going to do and they weren't quoting me anything additional. Shops also have a computer that dictates how much time jobs cost so that they can give accurate quotes (he was using this computer to give me this exact quote over the phone). To their credit, after I got irate, they provided me with a few discounts (free radiator hoses and 10% off labor) which dropped the cost down by about $200. Still over the high end I was expecting to pay and still $200 more than the two quotes, but at this point, I’m stuck, so I told them to go ahead and do the work.Car was finished at 6:30pm. Just picked up. No lights on the dash so seems good so far. Here’s the breakdown on the fees (10% off labor not reflected so it looks like they charge $170 an hour, which is very high IMO)(some slight rounding):Thermostat housing remove and replace labor: $170 (1 hour for this job seems appropriate)Thermostat part: $78 ($25 at Autozone but you expect to pay triple at a shop cause they can charge what they want)Radiator hose remove and replace labor: $170 (1 hour shop time to replace hoses seems high)Radiator Parts: $0Cooling system flush: $109Coolant flush and additive: $352 gallon coolant: $35Disposal fee: $9$23 for "shop supplies"$9 under "Charges" whatever that means. They also charged me $8 for a tire rotation, which I didn’t ask for and they didn’t mention at any time.**note, I also got an oil change at the same time but I’m not including those fees within here.Sorry for the length but I feel it’s important to document for everyone’s sake. There’s tons of great ratings on this place but I can’t imagine coming back due to cost and lack of transparency up front.

Work was completed and the vehicle runs fine. They reduced the price after I was quoted which is unheard of. Would have given 5 stars but they were two days later than estimated which would have been fine but I would have liked a call explaining that. Will definitely go back and refer to others.Service: Brake service & repair

I have been proudly coming to all Around Auto services since 2011 I recommend Dave and his crew to everyone, I know, and even when someone tries to mention any other business, I tell them I won’t take my vehicles to anyone else. They are honest trustworthy, and treat their customers like they appreciate them not just like a dollar sign

Very pleased with their service. They gave me an honest assessment for repairs needed on my older Jeep. While the repair cost would have exceeded the value of the vehicle and I chose not to proceed, I wouldn't hesitate to use them for future service and repairs.Services: Engine repair

My first All Around Auto experience was great. I discovered some significant amount of fluid leaking from my vehicle right before the Labor Day weekend and wanted to get it inspected ASAP. Initially, I made an appointment with my local dealer for inspection immediately after the holiday. Before I towed my car to the dealership, I was informed that the dealership would need 3- 7 days just to investigate the issue. I needed something to happen faster than that as I had been without my car for 5 days at that point. A search for the best rated auto shop in my area lead me to All Around. After speaking with Tom to discuss my concern, he was able to get it inspected the next day.So I had my car towed to All Around and my car was inspected and fixed within 3 days. The final cost was even $80 less than the original quote! I have driven the car for a few days and all is great with the car this far. You all can believe the rave reviews. Kudos to All Around. You will be my first stop for any future auto repair needs.

As usual, they were very punctual, as well as friendly and knowledgeable. They found a potentially serious issue with the brakes and gave me a written estimate, but also explained that a decision wasn't necessary immediately, but not to be ignored. Dave and his workers are top notch!Services: General repairs & maintenance

I first posted in a Sterling Heights Residents Group on Facebook for recommendations on a business to take my 2010 Dodge Caravan SXT for an oil change since I'm fairly new to the area. I got quite a few recommendations and quite a few were for All About Automobiles, which I decided on them because of the multiple recommendations and the location which is just a few minutes from where I live. I dropped my Van off and although they were extremely busy my Van was finished just a few hours later. As part of the oil change my Van was given a front to back safety inspection. There were several minor and a couple of mechanics that should be taken care of sooner rather than later. Staff was extremely thorough in their inspection and everything was discussed and explained to me by Tom. Being a senior female with absolutely no mechanical background I am very pleased to have found All About Automobiles. Thaxs Tim and crew, I appreciate you all

This place is tucked away on the northeast corner of 18 Mile and Mound Road. Discovered them when my car had died previously in a parking lot a couple miles away. They work with a towing service that dropped my car at their shop. Got a follow-up call when I couldn't make it there to discuss. They were backed up but communicated clearly when they'd be able to get to a diagnostic review. In the end it was the starter and some other neglected high priority items. All parts and labor costs were known up front, no surprises and In the end they waived the diagnostic fee because of being backed up so much, which was very considerate.A place that communicates clearly, doesn't do the hard sell, is professional and does what they say and gets the job done. Hard to find in this economy. I immediately distributed cards to friends and family. Give All Around a call if you find yourself needing auto help.

Couple of years ago my car axel broke in the middle of the road. Police officer stopped and helped ( his last name was the same as mine! Job) called a tow truck and driver said that All Around Auto is a pretty good place. Young couple stayed open to help me with my car. I will never forget their kindness. I need my car looked at for a second opinion and hope to get it over to them as I feel they can be trusted. -Nancy Job

Been going to All Around Auto for years - for my daughter's cars and for mine. Always very happy with the work, the service, and the price. And I never buy a car without bringing it here for an inspection first. If you are not getting your work done here, you should be!Services: Auto engine tuning

Worse service I have ever experienced in my life. Sat on my truck for 8 weeks after being told it would be about 3-4 weeks. Hard time getting updates. The shop seems to have a a hard time fixing things right. Truck continues to leak oil after bringing it back multiple times and has other issues now that it didn’t have before. Would never recommend anyone to here.Service: Engine repair
