I've known the family for 30 years and they are always quick to open everyone with open arms. When I found out they were taking over Taylor's Kitchen, I couldn't wait to check it out and support. I came for the family and have since kept coming back for the food. The family friendly environment with open kitchen is something to note. Everyone that walks in gets a greeting from most everyone from behind the counter. Everything is always well taken care of and clean. All team members seem to pitch in to help each other out, checking on each other's tables, etc. I've noted the cooks even coming out and checking on patrons themselves. We moved farther away and still make the drive to come dine in as often as possible. We've been making our way through the menu and haven't found something we don't like yet. The pulled pork Nachos and Mac and cheese seems to be my husband's go-to. He works close by and has turned the whole company on to Taylor's Kitchen. If you want a family friendly environment, with great portions of delicious food, make sure to check out this hidden gem!

It's a small hidden gem, this area. The food is excellent and the service is amiable. I enjoy that it's not too big inside, with less people. For what it was, this establishment was nonetheless busy.

Super strange experience at Taylor’s kitchen. Like most others, we arrived straight off a plane from DTW to visit our Michigan local friends. There was a group of six of us and someone kindly moved to let us have the table booth. After that things got weird. First of all, I walked to the back of the restaurant right away to use the restroom. As I was walking there, a white lady in the kitchen, behind a glass partition, started waving at me saying hi, hello, hi, how are you, frantically. I finally realized she was saying hi to me and said hi back, confused. Then I went to the bathroom. When I exited, I was walking back to my table, the same white lady aggressively made eye contact and asked, are you dining with us today??? Well yes… I’m here aren’t I? I’m not allowed to wash my hands before ordering??You’re probably like, that sounds friendly and innocent. But as a Black woman, we know when things feel off being approached with such “friendly” scrutiny. It was like she was questioning my right to be thereI sat with my friends and we ordered. The food came out a little while later. It was uneventful. It was also very bland. I’m not sure there was a pinch of salt or pepper on anything. My friend’s nachos were the driest combination of ground beef, tortilla chips and cheese we’d ever seen, if you can imagine that. But we were eating until my friend’s husband said quietly, there’s a staple in my omelet. We all looked up, alarmed. Sure enough, right there on the plate, there was a perfect used staple. It was used, so it looked like it had been used to staple two papers together. We all stared in horror at the evidence on his plate. One of my friends said that he had to say something. There were six people at the table. We all saw this. It wasn’t imagined. However, we were all so surprised that none of us had the good sense to take a picture. The waitress came by to casually check on us. She was carrying a pot of coffee. None of us had ordered coffee so obviously that coffee was for other patrons as she made her rounds. When she came over with her pot of coffee, my friend’s husband quietly let her know about the staple. She took one look at his plate, immediately put the hot coffee pot directly on the table beside us, said “Let me take care of that” and wisked the plate away before we could think another thought. We all nibbled at our food. We waited. The coffee pot stayed where it was, cooling down and burning the table. It stayed there for over 10 minutes. Nobody around us got a coffee refill. The waitress never came back.My friend’s husband ate his pancake because that was all the food he had left after she took away the contaminated omelet. When the waitress did come back, she came back with the check. She said, well I don’t know how that got the omelet. That object isn’t anything we have in our restaurant. Well, I took the omelet off but I charged you for the pancake. The pancake was a side to the omelet. The pancake was the only thing my friend’s husband had to eat as the waitress did not return to offer him another omelet or another breakfast option. She only came back with the check.Obviously, we should have not been charged for the pancake.Oh and guess what? The check was hand written on a piece of paper and stapled to the original order. So there are used staples in the restaurant.Look, we asked for nothing. We paid and made no fuss. But what we were owed was an apology and at least an attempt to make this right.Might I add that my friends are not Black, but they were not white either. At best, Taylor’s Kitchen is sloppy and has poor customer service. At worst, they are racist.Big Boy is a better choice.
