Absolutely impossible to get ahold of anyone at the office to schedule an appointment for our pet. I called several times within a two week span, left two voicemails; with no returned call back, when I finally got through to someone they asked if I could be put hold where I sat on hold for 22 minutes where the call was then routed to a voicemail system.

I’m not one for leaving bad reviews, but i have NEVER come across a veterinary clinic or animal hospital that is so infuriating. I would leave a zero star review, were that an option. Banfield is impossible to get in contact with. They always point to their vet chat and online appointment scheduling, but in the time that I have been with them, neither of those options have even been available. You’re very lucky if you even get an answer when you call, and even leaving a voicemail will not get you anywhere. I have never once been called back regarding a voicemail I left, no matter how important my problem was. Just today, I was calling to get a refill of my dog’s medication. The phone was picked up on the very last ring, the lady that picked up the phone said “Thank you for calling Banfield, can you hold?” and before I was even able to get a word out of my mouth, I was on hold. Now, in this instance that’s fine because I was just trying to refill meds, but had it been an emergency, I could’ve been screwed right there. I was on hold for five minutes before the call disconnected - five minutes is far from the max hold time, as I’ve been on hold with them for over thirty minutes before. I called again thinking oh well, it may have been a mistake. This time the phone rang twice before the receiver was picked up and promptly set back down. At this point I was starting to get upset. I tried again. It rang once, and I was greeted by their answering machine stating something like this: “Thank you for calling Banfield Pet Hospital of Traverse City. This office is currently closed. We are open from eight AM to six PM. We are closed Sundays and Wednesdays.” Mind you, while I’m making this call, it was one o’clock on a Thursday. As a receptionist, I understand that not all calls can be answered right away, but to be an animal hospital and shut your phones off completely in the middle of an open work day is mind boggling to me. Had any person tried to call with an emergency, they would have been told on a THURSDAY AFTERNOON that the clinic was closed, and they would have had no means of getting in contact with a doctor. Not only this, but they do not have an on-call number either. You can only leave a voicemail for them to “listen to on their next business day”. I won’t even bother going into the issues with their doctors or staff. I’ve tried to stay with Banfield as long as I could because I know that my dog adores the employees, but I’ve had enough. I wish for the sake of everyone still taking their animals to Banfield that I’ve been the only one dealing with these issues, but I’ve heard from too many people the issues to think that’s a plausible wish. Please do not take your animals to Banfield if you want what’s best for them.

This use to be a great location. Now they make you take out a wellness package if you want to use Banfield. What a joke! Disgusted

I have been super impressed with the care that my puppy has been receiving there. The package that they offer makes it reasonable to get the care that your new pet needs!

I would give zero starts if I could. Horrible customer service. They cancelled my appointment because they were "short staffed" but didn't bother to tell me. When I showed up they couldn't get me in for another three months. Because of that, my dog needed an additional booster which he wouldn't have needed had they not cancelled my appointment. They then said they had to charge an exam fee again for the booster appointment even though he just had his exam. When I said that I shouldn't be charged for another exam fee as he was literally just there (not to mention the fact that I shouldn't even be charged for the booster as they were the ones who cancelled the appointment), they were extremely rude to me.

Horrible experience, drove 4 hrs to get there specifically to get her pro heart injection, they booked the appt and when we got there they told us they had 6 dental patients and they would work her in when they got the time and we should be able to pick her up around 5 pm...her appt was at 11 am! I told them we had a 4 hr drive back home and didn't want to leave her in their very noisy clinic, lots of dogs barking a lot, they way over booked. They told us they would call when it was time to pick her up, no call so we went back to clinic and they said she was ready to go, the vet would call to go over bloodwork. She called when we were almost home, said everything looked good, they needed to schedule a time to bring her in for pro heart injection! I told her that was the whole reason for getting up at 5 am and driving 4 hrs to that clinic, they were supposed to do it that day! Lost the call due to bad cell service. The next day I was told our only options were to drive back to their clinic or another clinic would give the injection but we would have to pay for it as they weren't in our plan! We are grateful for the other clinic providing the service, they were awesome but 1.5 hr drive and paying for something our clinic should have provided was really wrong, they should have covered the cost for the other clinic since it was their error. We recently moved to the UP and obviously the Banfield plan doesn't work for us anymore. We are used to clean, well managed office in AZ 10 minutes from home, this one was clearly not that! When explaining our situation repeatedly at booking appt, intake questions and when checking on progress, the ONE thing we brought her there for should have been completed!

Changing my review as I was able to get my pup in with the help of corporate. Dr. Grant was amazing with my dog, very kind and very thorough. I was able to schedule a comprehensive exam and dental for my grand pup and my dog as well. I will stay with them as I'm very satisfied with them today.

Today I was told that it would be 6 months before my cat could be seen for an illness visit. She quickly lost a lot of weight and I was told that if I paid for a “wellness plan” they could get her in this week, but since I can’t afford a monthly plan I have to wait 6 months? Extortion. And just disgusting. I’ll be taking all my animals elsewhere.

Banfield has been great for our dogs. I am leaving a review because some folks see Banfield as a “corporate vet” and think they are soulless or that they will treat you like a number. Definitely not our experience with them. Every interaction I have had there with two dogs (a senior lab and a large breed puppy) has been caring, thoughtful, friendly and even joyful. They do get busy and don’t exactly have a small-town feel, but they care about my dogs and they care about me as a pet-parent. You usually do need to leave your pet there for care, so if you are not comfortable with that you should probably look somewhere else. But my dogs always willingly walk through the door and are always greeted with care and kindness. Bonus points for child activity area, coffee, super clean restrooms, and convenient location for knocking out all of the errands while my dogs are being seen.

We've taken our cats to Banfield in TC for the past 8 years and pay for the insurance plan all that time. They hadn't been too terrible until this past week, when our 12 year old cat was dehydrated, throwing up, and not eating. Over the Labor Day weekend, we had to take him to a separate Emergency vet clinic as Banfield wasn't open, but that's to be expected. What wasn't expected was being told we can't have a walk in check up the next week for our sick kitty, that he would need to wait until the following week for even a walk in. He was lethargic and very ill, so we reached out to a local vet in Interlochen, who immediately scheduled a drop off check up and pinpointed the problem-the medicine Banfield had prescribed was inflaming the stomach lining of our cat, causing him to be sick. We were very upset to learn this. We've since switched to the local vet. I tried to reach out again to Banfield to get our cats records sent over and they told me they can't help, suggested we use the website and then hung up on me. Very rude phone staff, little to no care for your pets, and though I understand that they're short staffed, this really flies in the face of their recorded messages stating they care about our pets. They don't. Will never go to them again for anything.

Pet owners' beware!!! This place is a joke. They have recently lost 3 Veterinarians and although my dogs were tested and seen this year Banfield is refusing to give more heartworm meds unless I bring them back in for another $50 exam with a new Veterinarian. They are now risking the health of my pets so that corporate can get more money. Another note their reception staff has become EXTREMELY RUDE!

The Banfield in Traverse City was very well-run. The staff was friendly and professional. Our appointment was on time. We asked to pick up our dog asap after her appointment and we were pleased when they expedited her care so we didn't have to wait several hours for pickup. I received a thorough report from the doctor after Minne's visit. We use Banfield for our dog's veterinary care not only for the quality of care and their Wellness Plans, but because we travel in our motorhome 8 months of the year. With Banfield having locations in many cities around the country, we can almost always be assured that we will have coverage when needed, wherever we may be. This was a very good Banfield experience.
