Blue Vase Books is INCREDIBLE and I hate that I'm not located closer to it! This place is, as described by my friend when we walked in, a thrift shop for books and so many other kinds of media! The store is 95% used and 5% new - truly just one shelf at the front of the store with some popular, new books and that's about it! Books probably account for about 80-90% of the store, but Blue Vase also offers used records, board games, and some other music/movie items. But my friends and I came here for books and boy were we satisfied! The prices here!!! That's where we must start. All adult books in paperback were $2.99 and hardcovers were $3.99 (all unless otherwise marked) and you cannot beat those prices! All of their books that I pulled off the shelves were in great condition, so they are very intentional about stocking their shelves with good quality products, and I loved the way this store was organized! Things are grouped mostly by genre - cookbooks, sports, fiction, new fiction, young adult, classics, romance, horror, etc. Naturally, the fiction section is the largest and spans an entirely long wall of the store and that one was hard to look through because there were just SO many titles. Just know you'll be walking through this store with your head at an angle reading all the titles! I found the most success within the new fiction/young adult areas AND the awesome Michigan/local reads area at the front of the store! These shelves were so lovely and I definitely snagged a lot of books that I've either heard good things about or were just curious about them from what I read on the back of the book. All in all, I ended up getting 20 books for just a little over $100. WHAT A STEAL! I happened to snag a book that one of the employees at Blue Vase Books published as well, which I think is SO cool! There were also a lot of cute stickers and mini book magnets at the check out counter, so I got a little lost in those as well! The employees were so patient with us as we squealed over all the cute and delightful things and were just so kind and lovely! Pay attention to the hours here as their hours are limited. They're open 4 days a week and only from 10 am to 6 pm, but trust that it's completely worth a trip here! When I was chatting with the employee who was checking out my books, I asked her how often the books refresh and she said daily! They get about 3 giant truckloads of books each week that they sort through and put onto the shelves in real time! So you are sure to find something here and different every time you stop by! They also have an online store with great deals as well and a good selection of their inventory on their as well! I love it here and will be stopping by every time I'm in the Traverse City area no matter what!

Great book store! I was a little overwhelmed with the selection. The prices are more than reasonable. I'll certainly be back (and will probably empty a bunch of books out of my house to)

I ordered a rare book that Blue Vase Books claimed to have in stock. They didn't have the book as they claimed they did so instead of refunding my money on this historical book they sent me a junk sci-fi garbage book that no one wants. Beware of this company! False advertising and sketchy business practices prevail here! WARNING: DISHONEST!

I ordered a rare book they said they had on hand, they didn't. So, instead, they sent a junk book! BEWARE! Blue Vase just wants you money!

Our favorite place for books! Very decent prices (way better than BAM) and an AMAZING selection. Better than the library. The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable and kind. This is a wonderful place for reading enthusiasts to come and spend a couple hours perusing on a weekend. Highly recommend!

I love, love, love BVB! We come here to exchange books for our school library and to fill our personal libraries at home. It’s like a treasure hunt every time!

Fairly well organized, a little pricey for used media, but a decent bargain and there's ALWAYS a chance you might find that favorite tome ??

Well, there goes the dream of designing one of the best used bookstores ever, because these folks already did it! This store is Brilliant! I've driven past a dozen times and this time I had 20 minutes extra to swing in, that wasn't nearly long enough... I've wandered the stacks of hundreds of used book stores and this is one of the very best I've ever seen! The store is spacious with lots of light to read by and more books than you can browse, even if you have hours to spare. The books are amazingly organized, cataloged and displayed, so it's really easy to find exactly what you are looking for. The store is clean, there are chairs to sit and read in and they have two computers setup so you can even search their many thousands of titles not on the display floor. They have a wall of audio books to dig through and a section for large print books as well. The employees were friendly and very knowledgeable, one even taking the time to walk me to two different areas that the book I was asking about could have been, it was in the second spot. They have a cool book trade-in program, read their website for specifics please, and even offer a book drop box outside the store, in case you just need to drop books and don't want to wait till they are open.If they would just put in a coffee station and a spot to buy a snack, I could spend the whole day here and never need to leave. I was able to find three 'hard to find' titles in only the 20 minutes I spent wandering the store, which means I'll make sure to have more time on my next visit!Bottom line, if you love searching through thousands of used books, looking for treasures to take home, go here and disappear into the stacks for hours of bliss. Just make sure you don't buy the books I'm looking for please...
