I don't get all the one star reviews. This is a perfectly fine Goodwill- it's clean and the staff is friendly. There are a lot of other options in the area but this store is worth a stop.

I'm in town a few times a week and I like to stop but the staff at this store is questionable. Equal opportunity employment? The blonde toothless older female cashier accused me of switching tags on the shoes when I was checking out and insisted on calling a manager who agreed with me. I had done nothing wrong and the cashier was so rude about it. I'm sorry I just spent over $100 on used shoes and u accuse me of that and no apology? No thanks.

It's a Great place especially when it is used as a stepping stone. Lots of resources for individuals in need. ?

Anyone considering going to this location...PLEASE READ! I've been to many Goodwills across the country and this Goodwill by far has the worst customer service I've ever come across. Staff as well as managers are rude for absolutely no reason. Dressing rooms are closed due to "staffing changes." Ummm there's more employees in there than most Goodwills I've been in. I think the dressing rooms can be open or allow people to bring merchandise in the restroom. I love giving businesses 5 star reviews, however, I have no good things to say regarding the way I was treated in this store. Goodwill Northern Michigan, consider the numerous reviews regarding your customer service.

What a store. And not in a good way. I entered the store and went straight for the books, as one does. As I was looking at books, this gentleman farted directly in my airspace. As I continued through the store, I received many dirty looks from employees and felt unwelcome in the store. As I left the store, I noticed all the random yellow posts scattered throughout the parking lot. That made pulling out and maneuvering through the parking lot almost impossible. The sign out front said "Donations create new lives". I don't believe that's how creating children works. On another note, the employees treated me like I was a dirty pair of boots. I would not recommend going to this particular goodwill ever unless you like these store conditions listed above. Thank you for listening to my ted talk (Ok, honestly wasn't THAT bad, but this was fun to write. All the events listed did happen nonetheless)

Today we had a not so great experience. When in the store the employees could have been much nicer and made some questionable comments about the products we were buying. The dressing rooms were closed and the bathrooms aloud no merchandise inside them so there is no place to try on clothes. In the parking lot there was some yellow cement poles that you should definitely watch out for. The signage from the road was not very good as the sign is not very tall and you can't see it with the trees in the way, it could create traffic issues. I believe the employees should have more "southern hospitality" and be ready to help their customers as that's what they are paid to do.

I've been to more Goodwills than most people and this one has been my least favorite experience yet. Every single dressing room was closed, and "you can't bring items into the bathroom" because they are "short staffed" even though they seemed to have a fairly good amount of workers. How am I supposed to try on a buy clothes if I don't know if they fit me?? The cashiers weren't very kind and made odd comments as they checked us out, including telling us to "have fun with the vampires" when we bought colored pencils, and not to get stuck in the shmits? Anyway, not the best Goodwill experience!

We have all had a time in our life when a person feels like, things just couldn't get any worse than this, and then you end up here. Yes, the Goodwill Inn, in Traverse City, Michigan. When I first moved to Michigan this is where I ended up and this was my rock bottom. The idea is to give you a place to stay, free of charge, while you work and save money to get into a place of your own. They also have family apartments as well, so family's aren't separated. It's not a pleasesent place to live. You're treated as a child, you are in your protective pods by 9pm, at 10pm you are allowed to go out on a smoke break for 15 minutes after that, back to your dorms until 6am when you can, (God be willing) go to the cafeteria for some coffee and hopefully and sometimes breakfast. My advice to you is don't wait for them to help you find a place, sure let them look, but nobody will look harder for a place then the person who needs it the most, and the same thing goes here. Besides, you gotta be off property by 9am to either go to work, find work or find a place to live. I was stuck in that place for 3 years so let me just say my son saw things there and to this day he and I both refer to this place as the portal between hell and Traverse City. Before and a short time after my son would have nightmares about this place. He sees a little girl standing in front of the cafeteria doors and he would ask her if she needed help, and as she slowly turns towards him her face changes into this grotesque vile other underworldy demon child that darted at him at a highly excellerated speed, then he'd wake, screaming, heart racing, that terrifying look in his eyes that left me helpless to console him. I could do nothing to comfort my son. And he was almost 18 at that time. All I'm saying is alot of lost and broken dreams come and go thru the Goodwill Inn and to think of this place as anything other than that, would be a grave mistake, it is NOT some sort of retreat your entering into here. So get in, get out and God speed.

Great place, they actually give veterans and seniors discounts. Should be every day though. As much as they top employees for goodwill make ,think they could afford it. Used to be alot better place for those in need, now some items cost more than new ones,or as much.

I found 5 tops today. They range from $5-8. Shopping here is a good option if you don't want to go to a high scale store because I can always find good name brands in good condition.DOWNSIDE:the clothes smell horrible. That can be part of it as they don't wash donations. I wash these thrift store finds with grape seed extract so they are sanitized. I suggest that everyone does the same. Regardless, these are good options but thrift shopping is not my favorite. I prefer the stores or online shopping.

Never stayed here myself, but from feedback through those I know who have first had an experience this place treats those in need very well, and is part of a much bigger picture which is the resource agency for homelessness in Grand Traverse County and surrounding areas. This is just one portion of a big picture. The selfless helping those in need, by definition.

Good place to get back on your feet and have help doing so. They help Traverse City single parents the most.

Based on the response from this business I am updating my review to 4 stars and will go back again, giving the benefit of the doubt when someone tries to make things better. Next time I'll wear legging and a light t-shirt under my warm clothes to try on clothes without a dressing room. Thank you for responding so positively.
