I've been going to Simone Eye Center for years. The doctors are great, but I've been waiting 3.5 weeks for my new glasses, I've tried calling and the call goes right to voicemail. I was told last week my glasses were shipped ad would be in on Monday/Tuesday. I called again on a Friday at 12:30 (the office if open until 1:30), to ask if the woman was still there in the optical department, I was told she was getting ready to leave but they would transfer me over and maybe she would pick up (they are literally about 10 feet apart), I was put back into voicemail....still no glasses. POOR COMMUNICATION.

Do not go to this place. I waited over 2 months to get an appointment to get contacts. They canceled my first appointment due to the doctor not being in. The doctor is only in on Mondays. At my first appointment, the doctor wanted to watch me put in the contact. I was in a very dark room and cannot see in the first place. That is why I was there. Then they had me come back to teach me how to put the contacts in which I already knew how I just could not see because it was so dark in the room. So now after waiting these two months, they tell me it's going to cost $100 to teach me how to put in a contact. I left with no contact. They kept them. What a waste of a day. I will never go back.

The jury is out on this somewhat new doctor added to the staff, Dr. Downey. I had an appointment for a follow up exam that was made last July, when I was called by the technician, I was told that I needed another exam. I explained to the technician that my insurance ONLY PAYS FOR EYE EXAMS EVERY 24 MONTHS. The technician took an attitude with me because I told her that I only came for a follow up. The technician did tell me that the Dr. wanted a full exam. I won my argument when I told her that I was there for a follow up appointment. This was billed to my medical insurance, not my vision insurance. This is what I came in for to begin with, a "medical" appointment. This technician had a chip on her shoulder while she was checking my eye pressure and I only told her that I wanted the one eye to be dilated. I couldn't tell you what her face looked like. Her attitude was very cold. When Dr. Downey did come into the exam room, she told me that she recommends that eyes be checked every year. How many times do I have to explain my vision insurance only covers every 24 months?? I felt very disrespected when I left. With rising costs everywhere, I was not going to add another unwanted expense. I had no idea what the eye exam would have cost without my vision insurance. I did make an appointment for an eye exam next year, but I would much rather see Dr. Varinelli than Dr. Downey. The girls at the reception area were nice.

We came here for years and the doctor was great. Always made an appointment months in advance. Every time we called for something that needed to be looked at immediately they could not fit us in. The wife came in for an appointment and wanted to make an appointment for the kids and they told her to call later. She called another place and made appointments and we stopped coming here. Fast forward a couple of years. Sitting with my mom waiting for an eye surgery. Guy at the desk complaining that they made him wait for three months with a major eye issue. Lady at the desk telling him that can't be possible. Sounds like things haven't changed. Great doc and horrible office staff. Still here. Now office staff if bashing a doctor she used to work for by name. Even talking about him favoring mild eastern people. Literally out loud with a room full of people. Is it possible to be less professional? I think not. Changing my review to one star

Great service, have been going for years. My only disappointment was not all of the doctors accept the same medical insurance. This I don't understand. Why does this happen in the same practice. I am still covered but had to change the Dr. I see. Both doctors are great , but I don't understand

I've been seeing Dr. Simone for at least 10 years. He's a great doctor. The entire staff there is very friendly. I go every year for a dilated eye exam, and he's always careful and thorough. Not only that, I'm always in and out fairly quickly, never having to wait a long time because he's running behind, like what happens at most doctors. I'd definitely recommend to anyone based on my experiences.

Persons who have had R.K., Lasik surgery DO NOT deal with THIS DOCTOR. I would have donated the close to $2000 for upgraded Cataract lens to his pocketbook rather than have had him make my eye stigmatism worst than it was before my surgery. Do not buy anything but basic eye lens as paid for by most insurance companies because your sight will only get worst. There are no ethics it is about getting the money.

It’s very nice and comfortable experiences there. But hopefully no more recommendations for myopia treatment to BIrmingham vision care, that place only asks for money but responsibilities and sincerity.

I think both Dr Simone and Dr Varinelli are professional and thorough.. just had cataract surgery on my left eye, and it went great. Having my follow up appts and then the other eye done in 10 days. They're being very cautious during this pandemic and I feel very safe in their facility.
