American has worked on my Briggs and Stratton 12kw generator several times. The service people have been very good. I have (had) issues with the office. Overlooking the rude telephone receptionist, the last time they came out they said I needed another controller board. $235.00 to determine the problem. Fine, they then quoted almost $500.00 for a new board and another $235.00 to install it. That's almost $1000.00 to replace a board that I purchased from Amazon for $200.00. I replaced it myself. I've found another local company that treats it's customers like customers, not suckers.Service: General repairs

If you're looking for a generator repair service, look no further. This full-house generator had not been serviced in over 10 years. I am very thankful to Josh who did a fantastic job of diagnosing and fixing the problem. He had to order a couple of gaskets for an oil leak but he had it all cleaned up and it was humming by the time he left. Highly recommend!Service: General repairs

The folks at American Generator are great! I did not purchase my Briggs and Stratton generator from them but when it needed a new engine under the warranty they came through. It took 5 months to get the new engine from Briggs and Stratton at no fault of American. As soon as the replacement engine came in, they were right out to my home to perform the replacement. Their service team is knowledgeable and very professional. I would definitely have them install and service my next unit. Thanks to Jeff, Cindy, Rob, and Josh for doing such a great job!

We finally decided it was time to get a whole house generator. We had been using a pull start generator to keep our refrigerator / freezer cool and to run the furnace in the winter. We live in a rural area and have had power outages lasting up to 8 days.American Generator Sales & Service came out to review our house electrical, talked with us about our needs, things like how big our electric panel was, what appliances (gas and electric) we have, including power for our well and they asked what we could go without during a power outage. They talked with us about where to safely place it and discussed everything that was needed to complete the job. They even reached out to Consumer's Energy to upgrade our gas meter for us. They figured out all this sizing for electric and gas, (new gas meter) so everything works perfectly. We were given a few of options and we decided we could live without our Hot Tub running during an outage, but everything else works great. The option we chose was the Kohler 20k. it does everything we need and now that we have had a couple of outages, one that was about 6+ hours on a day over 95* and the AC never missed a beat! We love it. It even emails and text messages us when out power goes out.For the installation; it all went very well. A Consumers Energy tech came out and replaced the meter, very professional. Then American Generator Sales & Service scheduled a few weeks before they came, they called a couple days before to confirm, the work was done quickly, neatly and everything was tested before they left. We are very happy with our purchase, we just wish we did it sooner!Services: General construction

Tried scheduling 2 times and they said that they would call me when they were ready for my generator. They NEVER called back. Just wasted time when I could have went somewhere else.

I brought my family's portable generator to this company as they were one of the very few in South-East Michigan that listed themselves as offering repair services for portable generators. Said generator then spent two months in their shop without being serviced, at which point I finally came to collect it, and paid the shop for the aftermarket replacement voltage regulator (which they had ordered and received, but not installed.) Quoth the technician at the shop; "I don't have time to make a custom wiring harness." Armed with the easily-found wiring schematic for the retrofit (which we had provided the shop) it took me about 10 minutes, six wire nuts and a few lengths of extra insulated wire to fabricate a new wiring harness. I even drilled a hole in the generator's casing to accommodate the taller capacitor on the aftermarket voltage regulator and ran off a custom cap on my 3D printer to cover it (affixed with high-strength plastic epoxy.) Total time spent was about 30-45 minutes. I even added a custom replacement heat-shield for the circuit board out of some scrap FR4 fiberglass I had lying about. The company seems to have professional and competent technicians - but if they have so much higher-paying industrial/commercial work to pursue that they have no time to serve homeowners with small portable generators, they should not accept those jobs to begin with. My time is worth money too, and in the future I would appreciate a frank acknowledgement that they don't have the present capacity to accept my job so I can proceed to fix the problem myself instead of relying on those who can't spare fifteen minutes to read a wiring diagram.Service: General repairs
