This library honestly impressed me coming from larger city libraries. The atmosphere and the pride the staff takes in their job is amazing. I can't wait for my daughter to be old enough to take her there!

My recent visit to the West Branch Public Library left me disheartened, and it has deepened my understanding of the changing role of libraries in the digital age.I visited the library today with the intent to print an essential document to update my address following a recent move. Unfortunately, the experience was far from pleasant, and I feel compelled to share it.Upon entering the library around noon (11/08/2023) I politely informed a staff member of my purpose. Regrettably, her response was anything but welcoming. She curtly inquired about my library card, to which I replied that I didn't have one but was willing to sign up for it. Her response, however, was a flat refusal to provide me with a library card and instead handed me a guest pass.I proceeded to use the library's computer for printing my document. Being aware of the 20-cent per page charge, I had the change ready. After printing, I approached the same staff member who was assisting another guest. I patiently waited for my turn and informed her of my completed print job. What followed was an unnecessary lecture on the library's printing process, even though there were no other patrons waiting to use the computers. To my disbelief, she then demanded identification to approve my print request, despite having given me a guest ID earlier. The interaction was marked by impatience and eye-rolling. Eventually, I received my single piece of paper.Upon leaving the West Branch Public Library, I handed in my guest pass to the same staff member who had assisted me. To my surprise, she not only rejected it but also aggressively took it from my hand, dismissing it as "garbage." This unfortunate encounter further soured my experience and left me with a sense of disrespect. This experience has deepened my understanding of how libraries, once repositories of knowledge and research, are facing obsolescence in the age of technology. In an era when information is readily available online, libraries must evolve and prioritize customer service and community engagement to remain relevant and valuable. I hope that such interactions can be improved to ensure a more positive experience for all patrons and to help libraries find their place in the modern world.

Unwelcoming ExperienceIn My hometown community, a WBDL associate named Amy was very aloof in conversation. I spoke with her to receive my out of state library card. Ex: incorrectly finished sentences for me and did not let me ask a proper question. I would actually like to recommend this book called The Art of Being Kind by Stefan Einhorn. Comes in audio as well. Library 5/5 stars, staff N/A

Clean and neat. Helpful team members. Good community partners! ...The Book Nook is a good way to buy books, audio books, etc., & funds go into library projects like Summer Reading programs, etc.

Extremely nice staff. Took temp and asked questions because of covid. Masks are required if you are to be in this establishment. My township does not support this library with their taxes so I did have to pay 25$ to be a member but it is worth it. Not only do you get access to their books but also an online library of books both regular and audiobooks.
