I am from Europe and I flew into Detroit to take a car to Canada.I had a confirmed reservation and did put my card number down.I arrived an hour early and the girl at the counter told me that they tried reaching me *by phone* because there were no cars available.There were cars, even a bunch of electric ones and that all aside … AVIS seems to have NO control over their availability whatsoever. They also have processes from 1995 when email didn’t exist. I mean … why contact me by phone? … I was on a plane and the reservation was confirmed by email.Hell … do you have *any* idea how it feels ending up next to nowhere in a foreign city and country with a clerk that couldn’t care less about the problems this lack of professionalism causes for your customer. I‘m even AVIS preferred.I paid USD 250 for a shuttle im the end and I‘ll sue the hell out of this place.***EDIT:***You see that AVIS is replying to all these posts with customers who report similar problems. This suggest, that they will "investigate" the issue. What you will get back is a canned response like this:---Our apologies for not having your reserved vehicle available. Sometimes when making your reservation well in advance, we do expect to have certain vehicles available on those dates. But when the dates come, sometimes people who are already renting those vehicles may have extended their rental at the last minute, taking away what we had originally predicted to be available. That is certainly not an excuse, but we are merely trying to explain what may have caused this issue.Please let us know if we may be of any further assistance.---Take its straight to a lawyer, is my advice.

Terrible customer service. Favorite words come back tomorrow our computers are down. I said well can’t you see if I can go to another Avis instead of saying let’s see what we can do, he say naw it’s 1st come 1st serve like how do you know if don’t call. Anyhow he didn’t know what he was talking about I called and got it switched. Never going back to this location.

Made a reservation and received the confirmation email. But when arrived at here 15 mins in advance, they said they have no cars available and have no idea how I made the reservation. All she was doing is quickly finishing her task on her hands and go home as quick as she can. Although I see many normal cars like kia soul and other common cars you can get from a rental companies in the parking lot, but she say they are for other purpose. I don't know what are other purpose for those common cars parked in a rental company's parking lot. Show room?My whole schedule got ruined because it is difficult to find uber or lyft to and from my destinations after 6pm. Spent time and additional cost waiting for rideshare drives until I finally finish my day in Detroit.I believe many people have watched "Seinfeld - What's the Point of a Reservation" This is totally what I want to say to Avis: you know how to make reservation, but does not know how to HOLD the reservation, which is the most important part of reservation.

Absolutely horrible customer service. Book a rental. Then they say they don't have it at the last minute. So this time I booked online agian. Call to confirm, they can't even get me on the phone with the Westland location.

I just tried to pickup a ride through Uber from this location, spent money out my own pocket to take a Uber there because the voucher they sent me was no good. I get there and they said they have no vehicles for Uber even though I seen vehicles there marked "reserved for Uber". I understand they didn't have no power but there is such thing as using a cell phone or having another location calling to let me know. My phone had died so I couldn't call an Uber, so I tried to rent a vehicle for the day so I can get home. I was told they don't accept chime visa credit card even though I researched it online and Avis accepts chime visa credit card. So now I had to walk from middlebelt and van born to fort st ànd Southfield Rd in Lincoln park. Thanks Avis I appreciate it

The start of my experience with Avis was absolutely horrible. I got there at noon on July 6, 2023 to pick up the van that I booked for a party of 10. We booked a 12 passenger van because we are going on a trip for a birthday I got there at noon and did not even get my van until after 1 o’clock so I sat there waiting for over an hour when I asked what was going on. The lady working behind the counter, said it was coming from a different location which that location was only four minutes away but it took over an hour. I also had nine people waiting on me to leave for the destination that we were going to which was 7 1/2 hours away and we were late to check in because of thisThere is absolutely no reason you’re making the reservation. If you’re not going to get your car at that time I also think that if you get to a location and I don’t have a car waiting for you even though you asked for a certain time for pick up, they should have to Reimburse you some sort of money especially when it’s you and nine orders waiting to go somewhere because that just put a really big damper on our trip and we were literally hours off the schedule because of thisThe van itself was great fit us and comfortable but the service I received, was not professional at all I work in customer service. You don’t treat people like that. You should always try and compromise, regardless

I was supposed to pick up a rental vehicle from this location but the business was closed I was quite confused because I arrived on time for my appointment but was unavailable to pick up my rental, not only did this happen to me once but twice the business hours of operation on Sunday are 9:00 am to 12:00 pm my appointment was set at 10:00 am go figure...

Jamie @ the front desk was very helpful and exceptional! She answered any questions I had and explained everything to where I could understand as a first time renter. I was hesitant & nervous at first but she put things at ease for me.

You cannot return keys in the Dropbox (although they have one) yet they don't tell you this. I was quite irritated to have to come back (20 min drive) the next day and return the keys to the vehicle I rented.

Reserved a vehicle for uber to be told they didnt have any cars. Michael was very unprofessional had the nerve to tell me he forgot to call to tell me they had no cars available. I cldnt tell the lot was full of cars I drove 25 miles oneway..

Horrible customer service. Made reservation for mid size vehicle. Tried to put me in Toyota Corolla that was dirty. She took car to be cleaned and it still was dirty. Seats were stained and car just not acceptable..The attitude I was given because I expected better, not only in the car quality but in the customer care, was terrible. I sat for about an hour to see if another vehicle would be returned, I ultimately ended up cancelling reservation and rented car from airport. Save yourself the headache. DON’T rent from here.

Flew in on Friday. Got to the rental 30 min before closing with a reservation. As soon as I walked in the CSR lady told me the system was down and she couldn't rent us a car. And then she added that she had already closed out the cash drawer and closed the safe. It was snowing like mad and Middlebelt and Van Born is pretty much the middle of nowhere when you're on foot. We had to hire an Uber to take us to Detroits east side. The cost was about the same as the 3 day rental reservation. Personally I think the CSR closed early because of the weather and used the "system is down" excuse to avoid helping us. I travel in and out of Detroit regularly. I won't ever use this location again. Thanks avis.... for absolutely NOTHING!
