The price was pretty good for what you get. The beds were very hard and uncomfortable, and our bathroom didn't seem very clean. This place seems to be set up for older folks, since there was nothing for my three year old to do. But we enjoyed the paddle boats on the lake, and the setting and landscaping were beautiful!

I hate leaving negative reviews, but was shocked at how this place handled themselves. The website showed the room that we wanted for the 3 nights that we needed but would not let you reserve online, you have to call. So I called, got someone named Tressa, and she proceeded to say the room was not $155/night like the website said, but $190/night. Really??? They make you call to charge you more? I asked her to talk to management and get back to me the next day and no call back. I called back to see if they were going to honor their website pricing and got a firm no. Asked her what she could do for me on that room and then the room was magically already booked 3 weeks ago. Really??? The website still showed my dates available during our conversation.I went elsewhere, to a place that honored their website pricing and actually called their potential customers back. I hope my experience was a fluke and others get handled more appropriately in the future.

We came in the off season, for our first visit. The food was mildly disappointing, but we know from friends that regular season cuisine is much, much better. We had a nice room in the livery, and were happy with it. Endless hot water. Everything was clean and thoughtfully stocked. The bed was absolutely terrible. It was so hard and sagged in the middle, we thought about sleeping on the floor, it would have been more comfortable. We will certainly be back again and again, as this place is magical and truly relaxing. The brochure says "the best place in the world to do nothing" and we agree.

A little pricey at $198 after tax, but worth it in my opinion. My wife and I got a room with a queen bed and hot tub. Very good atmosphere and friendly staff, standard food for a lot of people but nothing bad. Nice place to stay for a one night retreat, would definitely return.

I was expecting a small lounge cabiny hotel. What I got was a beautiful experience. The main cabin is huge with nice lighting, comfy seats and a wonderful rustic feel. We all dozed right off on the beds with a nice lakeside view. Banana splits were great, along with a warm breakfest and dinner. Great pool tables also. Only complaint is, we were looking for a place to do some drinking. With a light out at 11 curfew that made it difficult.

I recently stayed at The Shack Hotel and while the rooms were good size, they were not as clean as I expected. The room had some dust and cobwebs and the bathroom could have been cleaner. On the plus side, my kids loved the shuffle board and the banana splits they served at the hotel's restaurant. However, the food was only average and didn't stand out.Overall, The Shack Hotel has a decent accommodation but the cleanliness and food could have been better.

We had a weekend retreat here recently. Very nice rooms and so nice to have meals on site as well. Especially since it's a bit far out of the way. Very comfortable, and nice to have kitchen rooms available too.

The place has heart, it’s beautiful but technically it’s not great. definitely not worth the price. the pros were the jacuzzi tub. the cons were everything else. There was not one but FOUR stands of random gross hair in the shower.. that tells you they don’t clean it… there was also hair in the jacuzzi and other nasty things when we turned it on. Also my boyfriend took a bite of the eggs for breakfast and pulled a stand almost a foot long of hair OUT OF HIS MOUTH. they said it’s supposed to be a quiet retreat but the people above us were so loud and didn’t quiet down until past 9pm. I really enjoyed the dinner buffet but my digestive system didn’t and it made me very sick. maybe this part is on us but since we went during the winter the roads were absolutely terrible and definitely had no salt or plow to make it easier. Also the beds were rock hard and the pillows sucked. i was just glad the sheets had been changed since the rest of the room was disgusting and dirty. they also don’t vacuum the floor at the end of the night or wipe the tables down so for breakfast the floor was covered in trash and crumbs and the tables were sticky from food the night before.

Have been here many tines for MI Farm Bureau and related AG events. Always a super clean and very plesant environment. Simple, but always excellent food. The log cabin decor is off the wall amazing, I have never seen anything like it, at least in this part of the state. ???!!!
