“I am new to Aitkin and was going through some city withdrawals when I randomly found this place. The pictures here really don't do this little gem justice. Below are 5 reasons to go. 1. The building is a historical site, so you are walking through history both inside and outside. 2. It has the most extensive Jaques collection outside the Bell Museum. (Full transparency I had no idea who Francis Lee Jaques was before I visited the place, but the story and art are fascinating.) For a one-stoplight town, this is impressive. 3. They have rotating art exhibitions and different classes. The classes are low-cost or free because they want to be accessible to the community. 4. It's not very big so you can spend 15 minutes or hours there depending on your preference for looking at art. It's next to the courthouse and across from the high school so it is literally just a few minutes walk after a nice lunch the Block North or a coffee at the Beanery. 5. This place runs entirely on donations and the kindness of volunteers (I will probably volunteer in the future), so if you are interested in giving back to the community, it's also a great option. They also have a little gift shop showcasing work by local artists with a portion of the proceeds going to the museum.”
