I am new to Aitkin and was going through some city withdrawals when I randomly found this place. The pictures here really don't do this little gem justice. Below are 5 reasons to go. 1. The building is a historical site, so you are walking through history both inside and outside. 2. It has the most extensive Jaques collection outside the Bell Museum. (Full transparency I had no idea who Francis Lee Jaques was before I visited the place, but the story and art are fascinating.) For a one-stoplight town, this is impressive. 3. They have rotating art exhibitions and different classes. The classes are low-cost or free because they want to be accessible to the community. 4. It's not very big so you can spend 15 minutes or hours there depending on your preference for looking at art. It's next to the courthouse and across from the high school so it is literally just a few minutes walk after a nice lunch the Block North or a coffee at the Beanery. 5. This place runs entirely on donations and the kindness of volunteers (I will probably volunteer in the future), so if you are interested in giving back to the community, it's also a great option. They also have a little gift shop showcasing work by local artists with a portion of the proceeds going to the museum.

The staff is friendly and knowledgeable of the Centers history as well as the art work that it holds. Beautifully set up and maintained. All the art work is absolutely amazing; extremely talented artists.Although Francis Lee Jaques is my Great Uncle; I'd still feel this way if he wasn't.

The Jaques (pronounced jay-KWEE) Art Center is a little hidden gem, tucked away in plain sight, in the cozy little township of Aitkin, Minnesota. A warm, charming art gallery dedicated to the late artist Francis Lee Jaques, it contains some of his original wildlife paintings, as well as some artwork contributed by local artists for sale as well. The lady working at the time my lovely fiance and i visited, Colleen, was really sweet and and gave us wonderful insight of the entire history of the gallery and of ALL of the artists' backgrounds and contributions! Well worth a visit for people and families of ALL walks of life! Highly recommended!

I stopped into Jaques Art Center on a Tuesday. The place is set up for the holidays, complete with hot drinks, candy canes and pastries in one room and the others are flooding with the talent of the local community. There is so much to see and so much I want in my own home. There are great gift ideas from crafts, to art to hand stitched wonders. I absolutely love this Art Center. It went beyond my expectations; not to mention a very cheery staff to boot. I highly recommend anyone looking for unusual gift ideas to stop here, you won't be disappointed.

My daughter and I stopped by this gem of a museum on a rainy summer day. The art is memorable, the docent was fabulous, and the building is gorgeous. Furthermore, anyone familiar with the Bell Museum in the Twin Cities is well advised to stop here.
