December 2023 by Old & N' The Way
I have lived in Elba for over 20 years and never seen a business owner as rude, crude and nasty of a human prosper. Keith Marshman is a nasty drunk horrid to customers and employees and a complete embarrassment our beautiful city. Uncountable number of horrid stories not worth repeating but an honest evaluation of this person and their business.

The owner of this place should be ashamed of himself. Very sick person. If it wasn't the only station in 20 miles I don't this place would ever remain business the way he treats his customers and staff.

I have never been treated so rudely! I asked a few questions about their flies and apparently if you are not going to hire him for his guide service he refuses to answer questions about the products they sell. I don't care if you are the only game around, never ever should you treat potential customers the way I was treated today! Never going back!

Normally go to this place for all my needs when camping. Won't be going back ever again. Don't know if it was the owner but I found a dog about 3 miles down in the Northbranch area. Dog was unstable on feet, collapsed and VERY thirsty. He hopped in my car right away. Went to the gas station cause I normally get very good service their to ask if they knew of dog or any suggestions where I could take him as I am not from the area. Guy immediately said what do you want us to do about it and told me to drop dog back off where I found him. No compassion and for that they will no longer get my patronage.

If your looking for a once in a life time experience please stop in! Keep your questions short and to the point. Keith has been here for around 22yrs and has heard them all. And can answer most if they aren’t too ridiculous! The only way to get what you need is to be patient! And have a good sense of humor!

Horrible service from the owner himself. Accused us for clogging his bathroom after so many people used it. When we went to use the bathroom it was already clogged. Chased us out and proceed to cuss and even said “this is why I have a loaded shotgun”. Don’t ever stop at this pos place.

Went there the other day. A machine there didn’t work. Owner came up when I was outside. Told him about it. He got very aggressive and basically said it wasn’t his problem and that it happens all the time. Used to go there quite often for items. Never again! Will drive to st Charles or anywhere for that matter. No way to treat customers!!

I stop here when going to the fire tower here in town and it seems to be a good place to use the restroom and grab snack before you start your hike up the bluff. ?

I went in here one morning, cash in hand, ready to buy a propane tank, wood, and ice. The employee, Keith, began questioning the reason for my purchase, berating me, and told me that "you better go back to camp to wake up because I work 7 days a week". He then began to banter with his buddy who was there buying something while making fun/criticizing me for wanting to buy a new, full propane tank. He then proceeded to ring up multiple customers in front of me, all while making jabs at me. I run a retail business and I can't believe anyone would willingly give this guy their money... I drove to another town nearby and got friendly service without the attitude. He also apparently doesn't appreciate or like the people camping in the nearby state park based on the comments he and his buddy were making. What a miserable place. PS. You can buy wood and ice from the Whitewater visitor center. They were very pleasant.

The guy can give you attitudes but you can get your last minute things for fishing and snacks, and is the only gas station near the state park, unfortunately.
