“I had purchased a suit from a suit store in Fargo, ND for my husband’s dad’s funeral, and a salesman there had picked out the sizes based on the measurements. When I brought it back for my husband to try on, everything was a size TOO SMALL!!!! Now it’s the evening before my husband’s dad’s memorial service, and he has NOTHING to wear for it, or the funeral!
My friend recommended Patterson’s in Bemidji, MN to me. I called them the morning of the service, and they were open, and told me to come in! Not only did they find the RIGHT sized suit for my husband, but they hemmed the pants right away for me, and steamed the shirts, as I was literally bringing them right to my husband at the service.
Patterson’s has a really wide array of nice clothing, not just suits, so it’s a really nice clothing store! But most importantly to me that day, was how kind, gentle, patient and understanding they were with me, knowing the amount of stress I was under, and how emotional a time it was. I want to not only recommend their store for all your men’s clothing needs (they also carry some women’s clothing!), but also to thank them, for going above and beyond in all ways, to make sure we were taken care of. She was occupying her time by crocheting little tiny animals. She was very informative about everything in the store. What was handmade and what was not. Northern Surplus is geared toward outdoor and wilderness needs—camping, hiking, hunting, and general outdoor gear. It’s not a large store, but it carries a solid selection of quality products for its focus.

Loon Feather Leather, the attached section with the same owners, has an excellent selection of leather: natural, dyed, suede, full sides, and more—including cow, sheep, buffalo, elk, and others. They also stock a great range of tools and supplies for leatherworking at all levels.

This is also one of the only places in the area to find supplies for traditional Native American clothing for pow-wows, everyday wear, and ceremony, including drum-making supplies, jingle dress bells, and more.

The staff are knowledgeable and helpful without being pushy. When I was looking for advice, the owner spent over an hour with me discussing technique, offering recommendations, and even pointing me toward other places to check out for what I needed. I really appreciate that kind of genuine help.

They may not be the biggest and best, but they offer quality products, and service.”
