I needed to stop by the nearest grocery/convenient store to grab a red and yellow onion before going to the house my family rented for the Fourth of July week. Inside the store I only saw yellow onions and decided to take a pic to let the family know there were no red onions so they’ll have to live without the red onion in the salsa. As I put the yellow onion on the register counter, the older cashier lady looked me up and down and told me the price for my one onion was double the price that was written on the sign (see pic). I respectfully told her the sign said $0.99 and not $2. She proceeded to tell me the reason why mine cost $2 was because it was bigger than the others (all the onions were roughly the same size). Also, I’m not sure how she would know that the onion I had selected was bigger than the others if she did not take mine to compare it with the others. Before I could get a word in, she said “I’m not going to argue with you, you’re not from here.” This was awkward and immediately, I noticed that I was the only person of color in this tiny establishment…I gave her my $1 and walked out. Not coming here again.

Got some waffle ice cream cones here while visiting Maplewood state park. They were so good. Huge and reasonably priced. Owner and staff were nice as well. A must stop for a great treat. Definitely check them out if you're in the area.

It has been a family tradition to take all the kids and grandkids there for a treat when they are at the cabin for “family weekâ€.... a must to do the Tuesday pizza night!!!

Love this place. Been coming ever few years now and we love the soft serve ice cream and the old man who owns the store. My kids love this place! Will always be coming back! Best place ever! Thanks for showing us love. The Lady from New Mexico.

This is a cute little store that has just about everything you might need or want while at the Lake including fishing licenses and burning permits. They also have clothing, fishing lures, food, icecream, knick knacks and even interesting and eclectic items that I've never seen anywhere else. It's worth checking out even if you think you don't need anything.
