Rooms were clean and comfortable. Trail access right behind the motel. Free zoo pass for 4. The bikes are available for rent now. Not free. I look forward to staying here again next year.

Great spot if you’re in town to ride bikes and explore. Just down the road form Spirit Mountain and a great setup if your with a group. The 2nd generation local owner was very kind, accommodating to bikes and genuinely wants to support the biking community. Show this place some love.

Very different than the reviews I read! Very dirty carpet! I had to change my socks 3 times because the bottoms were filthy. We were staying for 4 nights and not once did housekeeping come around and ask if we needed anything! Big garbage cans outside, which is a good idea, but Friday night it was overflowing with garbage on the ground. The room looked dirty and felt dirty! The mulch around the entrance smelled like dog pee! The one good thing is the trail is right in back and there is ample parking.

This is not a fancy 5 star hotel. It is a basic and simple motel that is clean, comfortable, reasonably priced and has a couple nice amenities. Fire pits, charcoal grills, decks on the rooms and patio furniture out front. Thru have zoo passes you can use and bikes you can rent to ride the trail that is right out back. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Stayed there 2 nights while on a motorcycle trip and would absolutely do it again.

We enjoyed our stay at Munger Inn and with a few changes we would leave a 5 star review. There was a lot of amenities available to guests, but it didn't feel like there was a lot of support with those. Several fire rings with one bundle of fire wood available per room per stay, but no fire starter, lighter, or water to put the fire out. A few grills with outdoor seating (although we did not bbq). All of this information would be nice to have in the room. Outdoor area had a nice green area. Beautiful cabin like check-in/lounge area, but only used for bicycle storage and otherwise very cluttered. The room we had was spacious (living and small dining area with kitchenette) and even though dated was very clean. Dog friendly, which was a huge bonus! Room was not stocked with extras such as toilet paper, towels and no paper towels (for kitchenette area). The walls were very thin, so we heard the other two rooms. Located about 8-10 minutes from downtown across from the zoo. While we didn't use the passes, each room was given four Duluth Zoo passes.

I rented a room at the Munger Trail Inn the end of July 2024 on my vacation for a couple of days while I was biking the Munger Biking Trail.
The room I rented was very clean and organized. Very nicely laid out and was pleasantly surprised with what Jeff, (the Owner) had to offer. I was only going to rent it for one night but thought it was such a pleasurable and relaxing stay, I just had to rent it one more night!
The owner Jeff and I got to talking about my interest in shipwreck hunting and maritime history as Captain on a research vessel owned by the Great Lakes Shipwreck Preservation Society, We talked for quite a while and got to know each other.
Jeff is an interesting guy and told me about how he obtained ownership of the Munger Trail Inn. Quite a story!! You'll have to ask him to tell you the story when you rent a room from him. I had a such a great time I'll be back again soon. I need to bike more of the Munger Trail! Thank you Jeff for your amazing hospitality!!

To explain… We own a luxury glamping spa/Retreat in Northeastern Minnesota. We know how much work it takes to make a place feel like home and provide everything Guest’s need. This place was so comfortable, welcoming, clean and convenient! It provided so many wonderful Experiences! The room was delightfully, updated, functional and comfortable. We were steps from a private backyard patio with a grill/fire pit/ Adirondack chairs. It was such a delight! We had the privilege of touring the brand new Burnet dairy facility, only a few blocks away and the Duluth Zoo (across the street) where we were provided free entry for being guests at the Willard Munger Inn. We had the opportunity to take bikes on the trail as well or simply take a morning stroll peacefully along the Willard Munger paved trail through the woods. The location is fabulous and close to everything, but on the edge of the city, so you feel like you are apart from all the crazy hustle and bustle of tourism. Our weekend was fabulous because of all the effort that was put forth by the owner and staff of the Willard Munger Inn. Thank you so much Jeff and Willard Munger Staff for all you do!
Once again… We will be back! This is by far one of Duluth‘s precious gems!

We recently stayed here while we were in town for a running race. It was the perfect spot for us and our dog! Right by the Munger Trail, and a short drive into Duluth for food and swimming. The motel itself is older, but the owners clearly take a lot of pride in it and it's very clean and welcoming. The fire pit area around back is really nice! We will definitely be back!

One of the best cheap and quick inn’s in Minnesota. The staff are very friendly and the rooms are very cosy. This is also the perfect place to stay if you’re a mountain biker. The munger trail is right in your backyard. This is truly the most affordable inn.Nearby activities: The Duluth Zoo is right up the hill, and you get in for free with a pass from the inn.
