Second Update: I received my state refund via direct deposit a week ago and have been watching for my Federal to come. Finally went online to the Feds website only to find out that it wasn’t filed to be direct deposited and instead is being mailed. What?!?! I emailed my tax preparer yesterday morning about it but of course no response. The headache is not worth the trouble.
Update: They called me and are refunding me half of my charges due to the miscommunication and circumstances. I appreciate that. I'm glad they reached out and made things right.
Very unsatisfied. This was my first time using them. They were very slow to communicate with me. I sent questions to them with my information to which they never responded. The first communication I received was telling me my taxes were completed and the cost was over 2x the amount listed on their website. What?? They didn't even have all my information - which was what some of my initial questions were about. No estimates or letting me know that my costs would change. Their actual charges are ridiculously expensive. My taxes are not hard. I just have a lot going on so was trying to take something off my plate this year - expensive lesson learned. I will not be using them again.

Just terrible. Terrible process overall, lack of communication from Masud Mamun. I had to go into the office three times, even though the first time I just wanted to bring in my documents. After the first appointment, I asked if I could just upload one last piece of data via the online app, and he could message me if it were not correct. He said he didn't have time for that. So I had to come in! I'm paying H&R Block, but their time is more valuable than mine. (And it shouldn't have taken him less time than meeting with me in person than to just get the document via the online app.) If they allow messages through their app, they should be required to respond.
They expect you to sit there and watch them do their work, instead of doing it on their own time, even asking you to dictate data for them to type. Masud entered some data on the first appointment. He apparently didn't save it, so started typing it all in again on the third appointment (while I told him what to type). Also, somehow I initially got assigned to a different person in their online system, so a bunch of info about expenses when to the wrong person. He said he would fix it on the first appointment, but didn't fix until the third appointment when I saw he was right on the screen that would let him do it and pointed it out that he could do it right now.
I got the last piece of information to him on Tuesday before the deadline. (He had everything else in mid-March.) He filed an extension. I didn't know I even had that ready since it was email and no phone call. I was panicking until I realized. (I had called, but was unable to get ahold of him.)
Then I kept getting calls and messages from H&R Block asking when I was ready to finish my return! There was nothing left for me to do! Ball was in their court. Finally today - five weeks after I gave them the last bit of info, I had set up a phone appointment. And Masud never called. I ended up on the phone for over an hour today getting it squared away.
I spent over 7 hours driving to and fro, at appointments, and on the phone, when TaxAct would have taken me 2-3 hours. I've worked with another company in the past and all I did there was drop off my paperwork, and then they did my taxes (and they charged about half what H&R Block does). They just sent to me, I signed, and it got submitted. That's how it should go, but not so at H&R Block. And trying to get ahold of someone who can help when your tax preparer isn't responding is like trying to find Jimmy Hoffa. And note that had had all my documents locked up in an office somewhere, so it would have also taken a lot of time to gather it all again to take it somewhere else.
Shout out to Mark Gness at the Chaska office who finally got things squared away and explained why I wasn't getting a rebate on my EV. 4.5/5 starts there. (In general, he was great, and helped out without any notice. However, -0.5 points he could have done most of what he did and called me back instead of keeping me on the phone. But considering he was not even assigned to my case, it's a very minor gripe. But it seems to be a theme that they want you to sit and wait while they do work. But still, I'm grateful to him after all the terrible experience up to that point.)

I had a terrible experience with Masud Mamun. I began the process in January 2024 for my 2023 taxes and was assigned to Masud. He completed and sent the tax forms, but later on, the NY state requested additional forms. I struggled to contact him regarding this issue, and he procrastinated for about two weeks. Eventually, at the end of February, he provided me with a letter for NY state, promising to prepare an amended tax return within two weeks. However, that was our last conversation, and nothing has happened since. At the start of April, I received another letter from NY state stating that an error was made, and instead of receiving a refund, I owed money. I tried to reach out to Masud through the system and called the office five times, but the only response I received was that he was busy and would call me back. Unfortunately, he never returned my calls. Today is April 18, three days past the tax day, and he still has not contacted me or completed his work. Additionally, I paid extra for the "Peace of Mind" option but did not receive it. I do not recommend working with this office, especially Masud Mamun!

I first worked with Masud Mamun in 2020, which was my initial experience with HR Block. I chose HR Block based on my brother's recommendation, so I reserved my opinions and feedback at that time. However, after four years of utilizing HR Block services for my taxes, I feel compelled to caution others to steer clear of Masud Mamun. In my experience, he lacks attentiveness to tax matters and client requests, particularly regarding deductions. He just wants to get things done and doesn't care about what you want. He operates at a very fast pace but is super lacking in details; it seems like he's solely focused on his numbers. In the year I worked with him, I ended up owing taxes to Minnesota, whereas in any of the other years, I received refunds without issue.
Despite this, I must acknowledge that my overall experience with HR Block has been positive, and I would recommend seeking assistance from other tax professionals within the organization. It's worth noting that although I had scheduled my appointment with someone else at the office at that time, I was unexpectedly assigned to Masud Mamun. For a superior experience, I suggest exploring other HR Block locations for tax assistance which I had the great experience for 21, 22 and 23 in the other office.

Absolutely not. My husband and I had been going to H&R Block for years and after the 2022 filing year we will NEVER return and I will never recommend anyone to them. We had filed in April in office and then in September we still hadn’t received any refund from the state and then it dawned on me that we never received any confirmation that the state or the irs had accepted our filing. So I contacted the irs and they told me we had never filed for 2022…. Well yes we did, I have the whole packet that Massud gave us when we filed in office with him. So I contacted H&R Block and they tell me that we didn’t pay them and we still owe them money and that’s why they never filed our taxes for us… we filed in office and he took payment at the reception desk before we even left the office, so after providing my bank statement that proved we did in fact pay the district manager tells me that somehow our payment got attached to another persons account instead of ours. So it’s now October and all that’s offered to us is to file our taxes for no additional charge. We did get penalized for late filing when it wasn’t even our fault. Ridiculous and absolute garbage customer service

The tax preparer is rude and doesn’t know how to deal with the customer. I’ll not use him again next year.

The first time I've used a tax preparation service. I needed my taxes prepared under threat by the IRS because I had outstanding taxes unfiled. Massud saved my property, and helped me file 4 years both state and Federal in less than 24 hours to Make the IRS deadline. Now, the IRS is off my back. Thank you, H.R. Block.

I would give only 4 star for Masud. From filing tax standpoint, he is outstanding. But he did not give recommendations on what we can do to have lesser tax deduction. With fees HR Block is charging, We expect advice from him and HR Block on how we can better plan next year so that we have opportunities to reduce tax.
