Groceries Plus is a great store that has had a long history in Erskine, Minnesota. In the middle of a one-block downtown in a very small town, the store enjoys business from Erskine and elsewhere. It's open until 8 every night (even Sunday), and it employs a lot of people of all ages. This is a great place to shop. Like at other small-town grocery stores, some things are more expensive than the big-box places, but there are plenty of items that are priced quite competitively. It doesn't have the huge selection you might have in a store in a large city, but you might find more than you expect. You'll always get a couple of varieties of lettuce (usually iceberg and romaine), bagged salads and salad kits, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, onions, potatoes, tomatoes, lemons, etc., usually green onions and radishes. For fruit, they always have apples, oranges, grapes and lemons and often raspberries, strawberries and blueberries. Sometimes you'll get pomegranates, mangos, cherries, and more.Produce, meat, dairy and more are now housed in a new cooling system that's behind doors, keeping food fresher and saving energy. The store is well-known for its extensive meat selection, and if you can't find something, Jason, the owner, will go in the back and can probably locate it in the freezer. The store has plenty of beef and pork roasts, steaks, chops, ribs, etc., and hamburger of course, as well as chicken, turkey, fish and more. If you want flat-iron beef steaks, you'll almost always find them here (I don't see them everywhere). They're amazing to eat as a steak on a plate, but because they're thin, they're also nice for slicing for fajitas and other dishes.Around the rest of the store, you'll find a nice selection of canned and boxed foods, baking needs, cookies and crackers, beverages, and much more. Sometimes I come in expecting I won't be able to find what I want, and one of the friendly staff will poke around and come up with exactly what I was looking for. The people at Groceries Plus are super-friendly and practically make you let them carry your groceries out. :)
