absolutely loved the water and woods abstract class that Annie Hejny instructed. The studios at the colony are beautiful full of light, I can't wait to go back!

The staff and the programming - so much to take in...and in an area where one is extremely receptive to the quiet environment that is nonetheless completely stimulating and thought-provoking. What a perfect combination!

Great small art shop. Visited during the On the Lake Art Crawl. Classes look interesting. Up the hill a couple blocks from downtown

In the midst of taking a 5 day pastel plein air workshop and have to comment on the excellence of instructor Lisa Stauffer. She shares theory and then helps you refine technique with specific coaching — all in a friendly, encouraging way. Very pleased.

This was a labor of love for my Father (Birney Quick Founder), he felt very strongly about a number of different things. One that getting out into nature was paramount to begining the process of "seeing" and "feeling" what power nature would have over the direction the artist may take. Rocks, Waves Trees, Wind, Rain, Primeval forces that were present a 1000 years ago are here today. Just look.. spend a moment sensing your surroundings and you can not help but be captured by the sirens call. It is your time, this is the place. Now is the moment to let these strong forces of nature help to guide your brush, guide your pencil, whatever your medium you can capture the essence and be a part of this place forever.

This was a disappointing and wasted trip to a place I'd always wanted to see. Drove all the way from Illinois to the address on the website for the Plein Air festival. Upstairs was closed. As we walk up to the door of street-level shop we are told by the sole person there that she will be back in 2 minutes because she has to go to the post office. We wait. I ask her about the Plein Air Fest and she knows nothing. Says we have to go down 2 blocks to the colony. To where?? I thought this was the colony? Ugh. Complete letdown. We toured the town and went back home.
