Absolutely lovely place to spend the night! It was peaceful & quiet with a breathtaking view from room number 2. The cleanliness of the hostel was top notch. Charlie, the dog, was an added bonus to my stay here!

I would suggest anyone to this location to stay as it has really nice rooms, kitchen and other amenities too. It is located in a beautiful place. They have camping sites too but I stayed inside the hostel. Their restrooms are maintained very very clean. Very well maintained kitchen too. The host was very quick in helping with things. It is not so much away from the highway. Recommend 100%

I can only review based on our glamping experience (not hostel or campsite). I had emailed twice the week before our reservation regarding a few questions. Do we need bedsheets, blankets, duvets, etc? Can we bring a small portable heater? Is the tent heated whatsoever? Our emails went unanswered, and the $120 a night canvas glamping tent was in fact, completely unheated. We made it work with long underwear, layers, and extra blankets on a 34°F weekend, but were super disappointed that the price of the glamping tent was for a painfully uncomfortable spring mattress with no sheets, no firewood, no heat, and we had literally no communication with Hungry Hippie Hostel. There is no actual "check in," either, no touch point or follow up. I would love to try this place again, but perhaps the $80 a night hostel instead. The grounds are beautiful, and the view is spectacular. I really wish the value of the glamping site could be reevaluated.

My husband and I have traveled from Texas to the Wisconsin/Minnesota area twice now. I’m the Texan! I give the whole experience 10+ out of 10! I’m not much of an outdoorsy person but, loved our stay. Comfortable, clean, so very friendly owners, beautiful location! We will be back!!

The Hungry Hippie was chill and lovely. The setting is bucolic and our stay was pretty quiet. What the hosts lacked in hospitality was made up for by the warm and chatty person who cleans during the day. We stayed upstairs in the suite and it was spacious with just two of us. Do note: We chose a hostel because we wanted a kitchen to cook in, and we just made the assumption that a hostel would have that. There was a microwave, a coffee maker, and downstairs there was one plug-in hot plate — but definitely no kitchen. No worries; we ate in town and it was great.Rooms: We stayed in the upstairs suite. I’m glad we had separate beds, because the queen bed was very jiggly. It was convenient to have an in-suite toilet and we didn’t mind going outdoors and down the stairs to shower. The view was great! It would have been very warm up there, though, on a hot summer day.

My friend and I were hiking the Superior Hiking Trail and were rained on for 2.5 days straight. We showed up and spoke with the owner, they had more space than usual, a lesson to call ahead, but we ended up with the bunkhouse. It included 4 bunks a bed and a few chairs/couches, more than enough for us... even after we hung our hiking gear all over the room.Everything was very clean, the staff and owner were exceptionally friendly, and the 2 dogs that roam the property were fun.We both would highly recommend this place and their sister business Hungry Hippie Tacos in Grand Marais.

Wow, what a find. This place is perfect to stay for a great price right off Highway 61. There are plenty of options, whether you'd like to camp, glamp, stay in a group room (hostel), or private room. The hospitality was second to none with a ton of fresh linens provided, immaculate facilities, kitchen appliances, plenty of reading material on things to do in the area, quick email replies for questions, and even our name on the door. Thete are nice outside areas in the front and back to hang out. This is our new go-to place to stay when we're visiting in the area. Thanks so much.

What a delightful haven far from the maddening crowd! Unpretentious and simple in what it offers, this hostel-like accommodation sitting atop the hill overlooking Lake Superior is ideal for those seeking a more affordable and “untouristy” place to stay on the North Shore. Rooms, the commons area, bathrooms, and the whole property are spotless and well-maintained. The kitchen doesn’t have a stove to cook but there is a microwave, toaster, kettle, and coffee maker (with free coffee), plus a fridge. Thankfully no TV (but good wifi). Outside the hostel is a lovely sitting area with Adirondack chairs around a fire ring, and a view Lake Superior.

All around great lodging with a variety of options just outside of Grand Marais. The platform tents were spacious, clean and a perfect way to camp with a bed and big protections. The bathrooms were exceptionally clean. The grounds were peaceful. The only feedback would be the pics on the booking site for Platform Tent #1 should match the actual tent. We thought we were getting 2 twin beds vs 1 bed.

I stayed at Glampground #3 with my 6 year old son after passing on hiking and camping on the Superior Hiking Trail. We were SUPER lucky to get our reservation on such short notice in late June on the North Shore. Originally I wanted to hike and camp on the trail, but the forecast called for steady rain Saturday & Sunday and a high temp of 58°F, so I made a last second decision to stay in a sturdy canvas tent.Unbelievably glad I did!Getting there was easy, parking lot had plenty of room, and they even had wagons to load stuff from my car and pull to our glampground. Small children and two big dogs greeted us as we drove in, and I immediately felt welcomed. Our site was on the northwest end of the property, near a wooded area, and a bit of a walk to and from the main area of the property. But it was easy since there was a wide gravel path most of the way. The structure we stayed in was very strong and secure, with 3 inch straight wooden poles and galvanized steel joints holding it in place, the canvas roof and walls was stretched and held in place by ratchet straps that are used to secure exposed loads on trucks. The floor was wooden on concrete blocks, fairly level, very dry, and covered with a simple sort of rug type covering you'd find in a basement laundry room or workout room. And it was sealed up snug on the floor edges with heavy industrial duct tape. The canvas could be zipped or velcroed, and there was a bug netting wrapped around a "porch" that extended about 8 feet out from the actual tent. That netting was secured by magnets on either side of a curtain type setup that you pulled apart from the middle and as it closed behind you, simply magneted back together. It was pretty genius. There were a couple wooden steps leading to a squared gravel area with two plastic chairs, a fire pit with swivel grill, and a chunky wooden table with equaly chunky bench seats that could be moved. It was a simple, rustic, sturdy arrangement that reminded me of some sort of western pioneer camp. The washhouse was large, with men's and women's sides separated. There were sinks, toilets, and two showers. Lemony soap, with newish tile walls and very nice motion sensitive lighting. Outside there was a large sink for washing and filling water jugs. There were multiple tent camping sites scattered throughout the wooded area. And there was a firepit with large wooden benches surrounding it. This was where the grown-ups hung out and had random campfire chit-chat while the kids ran around throwing sticks for the dogs and catching fireflies.Honestly, I could go on and on about this place...It was just about perfect. You could see Lake Superior to the east.Oh, and it rained all night...but we were dry and bug-free, baby!!!!*****THE GLAMPGROUND IS WORTH IT!!!****Just had to say that because it isn't at all clear on the website just how much this place has to offer, and you might get a little sticker shock at the one-night price for a "canvas tent " - but you sleep on an ACTUAL BED (or two - the other Glampground has two beds) and you can take HOT SHOWERS, and there were virtually ZERO MOSQUITOS inside the tent even during the absolute worst bug season I can remember, and there is plenty of room for all your stuff inside the tent enclosure...Rooms: My son and I stayed at Glampround #3, a sturdily built 12×12 sealed canvas tent with a velcro/zipper front entrance, a net-enclosed "porch" with a magnetically sealed entrance, and a large gravel ground fire pit area with two lounging chairs and a thick wooden "picnic" style table. Inside the canvas tent was a queen sized bed with two very small rough wooden end tables on both sides. The floor had a nice rug, and there was a battery-powered lantern on a table. We had dry birch wood cut and stacked beside our tent, and there were strung up electric bulb lights powered by a small solar panel strewn along the outer edge of the "porch".Nearby activities: There was a parking lot with trailheads for the Superior Hiking

Very nice place. Off the beaten path. Do not expect cell reception here. Lol Owners were very nice. Modern restrooms with very nice showers. We stayed in one the the glamping tents. Was a cool night be we stayed warm and toasty. Find out what beds you will be getting for sure so you know what size bedding to bring with. There are queen size and two twin bed versions.
