Homeless shelter

This is an update post, they had helped with a room for three nights while being homeless however their lack of ada standards forced me to be homeless with no shelter. With as often as people are sent here, you'd think they would have more funding or adhere to ada standards.

Horrible place to go to if you are disabled and have a service animal. The woman named Leona or something of that spelling has been turning away someone I know and when she looked up the laws they told her to get out. And the cops were useless because they don't deem someone with disabilities worth helping unless u own property

Well I can't go into complete details. But this place serves more than just a homeless shelter to the community. I am VERY VERY grateful for the Grace House and Staff that helped me with what I needed. They helped me in a time when I had no help!! Thank you so so much!! God Bless and hope many good things come your way!!

This facility is technically considered a homeless shelter, but to reduce it to only those words and what they imply is to be very unfair to the Grace House. The building is only slightly bigger than a slightly large private residence, so its size prevents it from having too many people and personalities under one roof. This prevents the kind of problems notoriously seen in other states like where I had recently come from near Phoenix, AZ. The shelter in Phoenix is one gigantic concrete building and it’s not uncommon for there to never be less than 150-200 people under that one massive roof. The beds were bolted down, your items of importance were kept in a locker, you were required to vacate the building from 7 am to 7 pm, which was less than reasonable since most people in the shelter were without proper transportation and didn’t want to stray too far from the shelter for fear of losing their bed. There were usually several overdoses happening a week and people were regularly jumped, stabbed and robbed by other desperate people who were dying for a fix. That’s what Phoenix was like and I won’t even bring up how much worse most shelters in Southern California were than even what I’ve just described. I mention these things because it is worth noting that all of these terrible qualities I’d seen in years past in different areas of the country are fortunately not a problem I witnessed at all while I stayed at Grace House. The people weren’t the type to be doing drugs in the open or be passed out on the lawn out front. The Grace House staffers all cooked for us and made decent meals, I will admit. Home-cooked food is available at GH all 3 meals per day. At night it got quiet and people typically fell asleep pretty quickly. Everyone tried to do an assigned chore each day so the place stayed clean. Really nice washers and driers are made available for your clothing. Donated clothing and food is also on site should you need it when you leave. And the staff are tremendously helpful and knowledgeable on what programs are available to get you placed somewhere more permanent. I was only in the house for 11 days before Dustin, the manager at Grace, got me placed in a nearby private residence I share with 2-5 guys at any given time. Dustin is a wealth of experience and knowledge and the other staffers are capable of other issues outside of housing placement. I give Grace House a 5/5 for being what I’m convinced is the nicest “homeless shelter” in the country, as far as I’m concerned. Maybe I’m just used to tougher regions of the US, but I always felt welcomed and respected and I was helped when I needed it the entire time. Awesome place and amazing people!

I need to say that Grace House is by far the best homeless shelter I have ever stayed at! In my lifetime, I have needed to stay in 8 homeless shelters. Grace House was my best experience out of all of them.

Need to worry about the people's health that walk threw there door. Just as much as they worry about homelessness. Just a comment though..

Great place to go if your experiencing homelessness. Staff there are great. Great place to be to get back on your feet. Staff will help you with food, cloths, housing, resources you may need, they will help with abtaining a ID, medical, food assistance, guide you to employment, and other resources that you may need due to being homeless. Confidentiality is a high priority when you are there. Call 211 for more information, or the grace house directly.

Overall its a great place and a great helping hand. They offer 3 meals a day and snacks. The staff are very helpful. Crystal is the program director and she is very knowledgeable and helpful. Emily and Joan are also two of my favorite.
