One thing definitely done right by this breeder is the hedgehog socializing. I got my girl at 6 months and she was incredibly friendly and easy to handle.
What concerns me is some of the practices recommended - keeping multiple adult females together, a heat pad vs. a lamp, a dried insect diet, dusty clumping kitty litter. Wheels aren't even included in the "total set up".
My biggest concern, however, is that my hedgehog had stomach issues her whole time with me that eventually ended in her needing to be put down at only about 1 year old with extreme gastrointestinal distress. While this may have just been a fluke, it seems like poor breeding to get such a disorder so young.
I personally would recommend a licensed breeder that gives WHS and congenital health guarantees.

I brought a hedgehog and habitat from Otsego Hedgehogs last year and my little friend is thriving! They offer boarding for $5 per day and sell food that keeps him happy and healthy. Highly recommend if you're looking at adding a cute Hedgie to your family!

Extremely knowledgeable and helpful, even after purchasing. So much love and time given to these little gems. Being a one stop shop was such an easy transition into being a hedige owner!!

I got my hedgehog here 2 years ago. They were very kind and helped me understand how to take care of a hedgehog properly. They breed good hedgehogs! The one I bought was very friendly and cute!

Kristal was fun and easy to work with, and was very helpful. It is obvious that they care deeply about the hedgehogs they raise. They carry a large supply of hedgehog supplies and hedgehogs. Would (and will) buy from them again!

adopted a hedgehog from here and she only lived to four years after developing arthritis in her spine. My daughter adopted one who has developed WHS at four years. Very disappointing.

I adopted a hedgehog from here and she only lived to four years after developing arthritis in her spine. I tried reaching out to the owner back then to ask some questions but she never responded back to me. My daughter adopted a hedgehog from here and she is now four years old and developing wobbly hedgehog syndrome. The average life expectancy of an African pigmy hedgehog in captivity is 5-10 years and neither one of our sweet babies are going to even make it to 5 years. Very disappointed.

This breeder is very knowledgeable and has great information posted on her site. The kennels sold with the pets are a good starter but don't plan on them for long term. She also has a good amount of helpful additional items for sale and a private food blend, which is very useful and makes life easier for owners.

Do not buy from this business unless you want to spend thousands of dollars at a vets office and have your hedgehog euthanized at less than 2 years old. I could go on about the owners rude and accusatory manner when I simply reached out to inquire about why our hog wasn't doing well. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS BREEDER.

I do not recommend. My experience was very poor. I was given a pregnant hedgehog instead of a baby. I thought she was reputable but was extremely rude and lied to me. She said her daughter (age 16) "accidentally" switched the baby for a mom hedgehog. After calling the breeder in a panic after finding babies, she took hours to respond then came to my home to help. She took all 8 babies away from mom saying it was best and that mom would kill them if they stayed with her even though the mom was nursing all 8 babies. Do NOT adopt from Otsego Hedeghogs.

Kristal is a pleasure to chat with, and extremely knowledgeable on everything hedgehogs. She has a wonderful little shop connected to her home, and really wants the best for each and every animal she has. I especially respect that she asks for photos and dimensions of your set up, and even offers set up packages herself if you’re unsure of everything you’ll need. Unfortunately many small animals are looked at as not needing much space, but that’s simply not true. Instead of only caring about the transaction (money) she truly cares about the hedgehogs future & care. This made her stand out to me, and I’ll continue to recommend Otsego Hedgehogs. We love our little peanut, Bowser. He’s the perfect addition to our family. Thank you so much, Kristal!

BRWARE OF THIS BREEDER We purchased a baby hedgehog from Otsego and all the supplies in June 2020 as a gift for my daughters birthday. I contemplated posting this review, but after seeing so many others with the same complaints, I feel I have to. We brought our sweet little guy home and immediately we noticed his gait was off, as if he was dragging his legs behind him and he fell over all the time. We thought it was because he was a baby at 7 weeks old and surely the breeder would've known something was wrong and wouldn't have sold us a sick hedgehog. We had him for 2 weeks. Long enough to completely adore his sweet little personality and that he loved to lay in our warm hands. I knew something was wrong when I found him laying in his water dish. I warmed him up, got him dry, but he just continued to worsen. I messaged the breeder for advice and was told he was too cold. We moved him, but this made no difference. Through the night he kept worsening so we got him in emergently at the vet, where he died very shortly after. Blaming myself, I requested a necropsy and informed the breeder, who was quite rude and said I don't understand how a hedgehog died at 9 weeks old. We finally got the necropsy back, and my vet said, his death was NOT our fault. He was clearly a very ill hedgehog who had herpes lesions in his mouth and lesions in his stomach, on his liver, and brain, had stomatitis, and died of respiratory failure from bordatella pneumonia, which is kennel cough in dogs. I informed the breeder at the vets request so that she knew it's possible her other hedgehogs were also infected since herpes and bordatella are contagious. I received a response from her that she does not sell sick hedgehogs and that his death was our fault. I was not asking for a refund or another hedgehog, I was simply informing her and this was my response. She told me she would have her daughter who is a vet tech in another state, and also breeds hedgehogs would call me to discuss the necrospy. I emailed her the necropsy report, she called me once which I missed the call, I tried calling her back, she didn't answer. I left a message and I never heard from either of them again. Beware, do not buy a hedgehog from this women. They are sick, as so many others have said, and she should not be allowed to sell them. I still have the necropsy report as well, to prove this breeder is negligent.

DO NOT BUY FROM HERE... my sisters hedgehog and the whole litter got wibvly wobbly syndrome from this breeder and other litters have to. Which causes them to die! That is horrible and she should not have a license if multiple people have reported it! Unless you want your hedgehog to die a painful death in two years it is horrible! It is genetic so it is going to stem from the parents!
