The shack was not as all that was advertised. When we arrived the shack was absolute filth! There was blood and fish on the cutting board, filthy floor, cups on the floor, a months worth of dirt on the fans. The boy that took us to the shack said the shack was clean just “stained”. We asked for and were granted our money back.

We just got back from a 3 night stay in XL #2. Don't worry about being cold. The ceiling fan stayed on to keep us from overheating and actually kept the ice holes open too! The mattresses are comfy as hell... Nothing like hand-lining in an eater walleye on a rattle reel from your bed at 3am!
Speaking of which, these guys put us on the fish! We caught 30+ walleye and the smallest was still 15". Lost a giant that pulled a tip-down rod into the hole... Oh well. Well worth the excitement!
The staff is friendly, attentive and helpful. No matter if you're a rookie or a veteran ice angler, I'd recommend these guys for an annual trip. We will be back next year for sure!

We had a great trip this year! After a couple years getting pretty skunked, we had a big fish fry out on the ice even though the bite was slow with the extreme cold (40-50 below).
Jacob and Tony are hilarious, responsive, and took good care of our crew. They always try to put you on fish. We’ll be back next year for our fourth annual trip up.
The cabins are basic but have what you need. They could use a little cleaning (dust, summer spider webs).
Oh, and we moved up from an ice castle to a medium ice cabin and it was worth it.

Tony and Troy have been amazing the whole team has been great. When the tire chains gave us issues Tony saved us big time. The weekend I had my autistic son with Troy brought out a vexlar and taught us all about it. Tony let us use to so we could decide if we wanted to buy one. We are season pass holders, three years running we love the crew here. Roads are clean and we feel safe. The crew is either checking on us while they are plowing or Tony texts & calls. In the 3 years my family has been here fishing I've learned alot and made a few major mistakes and Tony was here to help every step on the way. Thanks Red Lake Ice Cabins. The Mikkelsen crew Gene Melissa Lelend and Cayden.
Safety: Top notch !! Ice roads are the best I've seen.

We’ve stayed at Red Lake Ice Cabins for the past 4 years. The houses have been very clean and the service is unmatched! I’m sure that an accident of something being missed can happen, by anyone but it never was an issue for us. I highly recommend Red Lake Ice Cabins!

Red Lake Ice Cabins: A Frozen Disappointment
We had high hopes for our ice fishing getaway, but the only thing colder than the temperature outside was the service from Red Lake Ice Cabins.
First, we arrived to a toilet that was full. Yes, full. So, we had to assume that the entire cabin hadn’t been cleaned—not just the bathroom. After all, if they miss the most basic thing, what else was left undone?
Let's just say what was listed as a custom "Ice Castle" on their website was far from it. The door's commitment to closure was as weak as the owner's commitment to property upkeep - which is to say, non-existent. With 50 mph winds and temperatures plummeting to 24 below zero, it was a real treat. Think frostbite chic.
Maintenance appeared to be a theoretical concept. Missing doorknobs, vanished stove dials, and cupboard doors that had clearly gone into witness protection were complemented by a card table so insubstantial it seemed apologetic about its own existence.
We would’ve packed up and left immediately, but the weather was so bad that the rental service had even pulled their employees from checking on guests. Instead, we were stuck in an ice dungeon.
Upon returning, we reached out to Red Lake Ice Cabins to voice our dissatisfaction. The owner had an excuse for everything. Apparently, when you rent your cabins out every day, there’s just no time for maintenance. Well, if you’re making that much money, it seems like a maintenance budget might be a good investment.
They finally agreed to refund us one night. But when my husband pointed out that we stayed just one night, they graciously bumped it up to half. The refund process matched the cabin's quality: fractional, grudging, mathematically creative. A check so reluctantly issued it seemed to resent its own existence.
The check arrived this week—but it wasn’t even for half. Oh no, it was rounded down to the nearest hundred. Just like they “round down” on repairs.
In short, this was the coldest, most disappointing experience we’ve had—and not just because of the weather. Unless you enjoy sub-par sanitation, DIY door repair, and being nickel-and-dimed for a truly miserable experience, I suggest you find a different way to embrace our winter wonderland. You'll thank me later.

Had a great experience with Red Lake Ice Cabin Rentals this past weekend. Price was fair, and Jason was very responsive and helpful with questions I had. We also had a small issue with a heater in the house early morning and he had a couple guys out to us within 15-20 minutes and had it resolved. Jacob was a very respectful young man as well. Will definitely be using these guys again in the future!!

All staff were very friendly, and that's the best I can say about our experience. The fishing was the worst we have ever had! 2 small fish( 1 walleye,1 perch) was all we caught in 3 day's between 2 people. Only marked about 10 fish. We asked to be moved to another location, but did not get answered. I saw in other reviews where customers were moved when bite was slow. Because of lack of accommodating us, we will not be going back.

The cabins need a good cleaning, but was warm using both heaters. The bite was very slow our group tried all recommendations of dead sticking, turning off lights etc.. we even turned off generator for over 6 hours still no fish. Only 2 fish caught for 2 days with 5 people fishing. They came to check on us and was available to bring needed things for cabin like matches to light stovetop. They was updated that bite was basically nothing, we left a day early because of it.
Rooms: One room cabin with 2 double beds and 3 twin sized stacked.
Safety: Carbon monoxide detector
Food & drinks: Bring all your own food, water and dishes.
Noteworthy details: Was not placed on fresh ice holes.
