My wife and I were browsing numerous stores on our first full day in Lanesboro and were so thrilled to have met the owner and learned about Essence!! In a short amount of time we learned more than I would have thought there was to learn about essential oils and soaps and fragrances. He is a sincerely knowledgeable and super friendly guy who clearly cares about all of his customers and wants them to go away happy that they stopped by. Job well done! Highly recommend stopping here if you swing into Lanesboro.

Peter is amazing! A PHD botanist mixing/creating custom products and scents. If you want an ingredient education this is the place. Unique items like neem soap and banana curry lip balms. Custom mix concentrations of lavender - this place is fun!!

Wanted to check out the Dove Dark Chocolate lip balm and all the yummy goodness that appeared to be ahead, and as we walked in, the employee/owner? told me my 10 year old, mask wearing, hand sanitizing, respectful daughter could not come in. I was shocked! I quickly started thinking I missed an 18+ sign, so we backed out and I told my daughter there must be some inappropriate items in back. If this is an adult shop please clearly post that somewhere so we aren't embarrassed and scolded as we enter.

Always a pleasure to stop in a couple of times a summer. The owner is so incredibly knowledgeable and explains the entire process of his products. He is a pleasure to chat with and his products are the best! I did see another comment about a gift card and the shop being closed. He is closed during the winter months --- as is most of Lanesboro.

Incredible skin products. Great to shave with and scent free. Peter is a genius. And, about the guy and his wife's perfume. Good God 30. Dollar fragrance. Are you kidding. Peter we love you.

Was there a few weeks ago, absolutely loved it. I'm already almost out of the lotion I purchased and need to get more. It's worth the 3 1/2 hour drive! This is saying alot because I am very picky and have sensitive skin. When I got home I told a couple of friends about this place and the products as well as Peter's knowledge, they were already familiar with the products and are also planning trips this summer to stock up on products. The blood orange chapstick is also wonderful!

Great natural products. I have extremely oily skin and Peter was able to help find products for my problem. Also it kept my beauty routine simple and the price was much less than department stores.

I'd been searching for decades to find *truly* all natural products. These are the real deal. All of my cleanser and moisturizing products now come from Essence of Lanesboro. Peter, the owner is a plant scientist (he holds advanced degrees in several related areas) who tested dozens of variations before arriving at each formulation. My sensitive skin has loved the formulations, and no one believes I just turned 50! Some things that sold me during my (long!) talks with the proprietor (I'm really picky ;-): --You could eat his products. This may sound weird and, of course, you don't *want* to eat them, but that's how safe they are (ie, if you have kids, pets, or are trying to avoid parabens, etc). --He started getting unsolicited referrals from the nurses at the Mayo Clinic oncology unit, because his products were the only ones gentle enough for Chemo patients' raw skin. --a Hollywood actress bought his cleansing cream, and now mail-orders it because it's the only thing that takes off her stubborn theatrical make-up. Anyhow, suffice it to say I've been a very happy and loyal customer for 4 years now (and plan to continue as long as Peter is in business). :-)

Disappointed and unprofessional! My wife bought patchouli rose perfume from here and she wore it for one night and realized the scent wore off quickly. Since she paid almost $30 for the perfume and it was not to her satisfaction she tried to return it. The shop owner would not take it back until I went in and talked to him. He ended up giving us our money back but not after he told me to never have my wife come back and that he sells nothing but the best products. My wife and were very disappointed in the poor customer service and unprofessionalism that a small business owner in such a charming town would demonstrate.

The owner explained his products in language that I understood. Prices were reasonable.
