Had some machine work done recently and honestly not happy with how everything played out. Called a while back and was told they were about a month out. So i dropped my engine block off 2 or 3 days later. Waited almost 2 months after hearing nothing, called and was told some stuff was done but they were waiting for another block on the machine that they needed to finish mine. I asked how long till it was done and i was told they don't know and they couldn't give me an estimate on time frame. I contacted another machine shop that was willing to get my block done almost immediately. So i called auto value back and said i would pay for what they had done so far but i don't want to them to finish it.
So i picked up my block 3 days later. I stood in the machine shop doorway until someone finally noticed. Then got my block loaded. After i got it loaded i walked back into the machine shop door and stood there until someone finally noticed me again and then was looked at with a look as if saying "are you lost?". Asked where i pay cause nobody said anything (if i didn't have morals i honestly could have just left without paying and nobody would have noticed). I walked into the main shop and took a minute or 2 for someone to acknowledge and have someone help me. The guy up front asked if i had already got my stuff, so the shop and the front desk don't communicate at all. The invoice doesn't show exactly what they did and they didn't tell me exactly all that was done.
A few days later i got my block to the machine shop that is going to finish it and they basically laughed at the quality that auto value did. For starters i was told the head surface was decked but there is still some rust pitting and there is a deep scratch that is new that goes from the edge of a head bolt hole to the edge of the block. They looked at the bores and pointed out that the honing they did was too steep and then found that the bore cutting markes were still visible and were not honed out properly. He ran his finger nail up and down and was able to lightly catch his finger nail on the visible bore marks. Also found that the bottom of the cylinders were sharp and not debur'd.
Long story short i get to spend more money having the new machine shop (which is a well known engine building shop) to fix the what auto value messed up on. I will not be going back to auto value to have any machine work done.
