Decent people, not a great selection, overpriced on a lot of stuff, but can somewhat understand since it's a small town store. But has MAJOR ISSUES with rotating stock, have had issues multiple times with getting stuff home and finding out it has been expired for weeks to months before I purchased it!!!!!! Haven't had any big problems with returning the products for replacement or refund other than a few times the cashier's haven't processed the returns at all. Like tonight went to make supper and found out both the ham and turkey I bought 4 days ago, had expired almost 2 weeks before I bought them!!! Brought them back and had no issues getting them replaced, except they took the expired ones and put the good ones in the bag and never processed the return and the replacement items ended up costing 5.00 less than the original products I bought!!! So it basically cost me 5.00 plus my time to get an expired product replaced!!!! Quality of their products has also changed terribly, bought frozen cod from there a few weeks ago and made it for supper and it was total mush and had to be discarded, have also had that issue with the hamburger I've gotten there on occasion, turned to mush and had off taste after frying or grilling it!!!! Nice to have a hometown store, but not nice to have to either keep returning or throwing stuff in the trash due to not being able to eat it!!! Prices definitely don't match the quality anymore!!! It's to the point I'll only shop there if I need a few little things, otherwise is more cost effective to go to New Ulm or Mankato, better selection, fresher product, and on some items alot better pricing, and more than covers the fuel to get there!!!! Would be great if they could get things back in order up there!!!!

"Buy local" they said. One or two employees that are in serious need of training (mindset/customer service upgrade re: profiling, etc.) do work here; and, also, some very VERY kind & friendly & welcoming employees do work here, too. And the "good egg" employees are no free pass for how many times we find the ice cream & other perishables not frozen but thawed, squishy. (Is the freezer sub-par or breaking down?) This is critical because it's a FOOD SAFETY ISSUE and, also, it's been pointed out to store personnel the first few times we encountered this. This issue is serious because it is how food poisoning/food borne illness may occur, when lacking proper temps. We've noticed this on 3 different visits. You, the reader, can decide if it's a pattern. With compromised temps, choose your foods carefully from here. Regardless, consumers need to be very aware of the dangers of getting ill due to poor food handling and storage practices! As a Health Science person, this is very concerning. One more caveat emptor (buyer beware) and this applies at all grocery stores everywhere and particularly here -- if the meat is too red, they may be "refreshing it" with added coloring; if meat is brown, it's not good anymore. Be very very careful with your meats selection and do your darndest to find a fresh piece that's not old or "refreshed"/recycled. I've known a few butchers and if you knew the truth about grocery/meat insider hacks, then you'd grow concern, too. No one needs to have a Health Science background to be a more conscientious consumer. We want to give this only 1 star but because of the overall customer service for which we're grateful and the basically fair-enough operations of the rest of the grocery store, I'm going to err on forbearance and kindness too and "upgrade" to 3 stars...because good customer service can overcome a litany of food safety sins, for lack of better expression. Nowadays, with all the free grants and education out there via USDA and local extension services, local produce farmers, etc., there's no excuse anymore to compromise temps and food safety. We hope either this store gets a facelift (interiorally, at least) to address above deficits or that Madelia gets a new grocery store. Competition is healthy for economic development, besides.Positives➕ include: the handful of staff that are ultra friendly and cordial and gracious; produce selections, including some minimal organic offerings; quick, safe place for picking up snacks and beverages; the discounted carts of food out front (could be lined up indoors, rather than ongoing exposure to the elements - or simply just give it away to food shelf or shelter or church, etc.). This frozen foods temperature disparity mentioned earlier makes us hesitate/reluctant to buy any dairy items here, too. Sadly, the two local convenience stores can be weirdly sometimes so we shop the grocer for a safe haven believe or not. Dollar Store is barely hanging in but probably one of the better experiences in town insofar as not getting harassed. Madelia, in general, is a 50-50 crapshoot for customer service - often no customer service to speak of with a handful of exceptions - Pioneer bank, the flower/gift shop next to the Culligan, Foxes pizza are reliably consistent for meeting these standards. The city manager as well was also very kind, as another exception but there are some rude people here that don't have a clue how to welcome newcomers or how to welcome, greet or treat anyone for that matter. Profiling and abusing customers by simple and limited minds is not ok.Buy local?Lake Crystal & Trimont grocery stores are examples of small town grocers that are upgrading their local communities with contemporary features and practices. ? We'd really like to see Madelia grow and thrive, and become more citizen-driven by resident innovators. Growing doesn't always mean more or bigger but better & wiser. Let's get moving or bust. Partn
