We had an appointment with Amanda in Maple Grove on Saturday to review 3 years worth of amendments we had done ourselves but wanted an expert to review to ensure they were correct. Amanda reviewed the returns and advised us on the proofs and best practice for sending in the amended returns. She was so kind and helpful and provided her services pro bono! We will definitely use her services next year.

Quang showed up 20 minutes late to our tax appointment. I stated in the online scheduler that I owned a business and needed to speak to someone briefly about my taxes. When he finally showed up, I told him that I needed to give him access to my QuickBooks account so he could view my expenses and income to complete my returns and he looked at me like I was speaking a different language. Felt absolutely no confidence that my taxes would be done competently so I walked out on the spot.

I did my taxes for around 8 years myself on TurboTax. I ended up with 2 straight confusing years while moving states and ended up getting reviewed by both MN and IL. Mark Allan not only helped me Amend and refile my 2022, he also knocked it out on 2023. If your taxes are super easy, do them yourself. When complexity hits, I would recommend Mark in a heart beat. He got me every dollar back, thank you!

Bait and switch pricing.
They won't honor the pricing their website promises.
Using their online price estimator, it should have cost us $159. They charged us over $500. Go to a place that honors their pricing promises.

Shady and overpriced. I am an 80 year old, who is retired and of limited means. I had my taxes done there a couple of days ago. Problems that went awry:
1.) When I called to inquire about the cost of completing taxes, I was told that the filing fees start at $150. After my taxes were completed, I was charged $160 for the Federal Return and $70 for the State Return alone. So, just with the two returns that the majority of people file, I was charged $230. I also had to have a 1099 completed which had a bunch of associated fees that were not disclosed to me until the end of my appointment.
2.) The H & R Block estimate tool that can be used to help people determine the cost of completing their taxes wasn’t working (I’ve heard it isn’t that accurate anyway) while I was at my appointment and none of the staff could get it to work. I regret that I proceeded to have them do my taxes trusting with the $150 starting point. I assumed that the end price would be reasonable. It wasn’t.
3.) I paid literally almost twice at H & R Block as what I paid last year at a different tax place and my returns are simple. My only reason for switching tax places was due to my recent relocation. My former place was 30 miles away. They charged a little over $200. H & R charged me over $400.
4.) Finally, only when the employee doing my taxes realized that I was upset about the final price of completing my taxes, did he offer a $25 new client discount. The $25 new client discount should have been part of the transaction and not only offered because I was upset. I will never go back to H & R Block. I’ve now read many other reviews that are all too similar to mine.

I had concerns about my tax filing completed this year (from a different accountant), and wanted to utilize H&R Block’s advertised second look, so I scheduled an appointment. I was called to reschedule and when I explained why I was coming in I was told it wasn’t their job to ensure someone else did my taxes properly, (even though that’s specifically what their website states)! She said if I came in next year and paid, they’d be happy to do my taxes. When asked if at that time they would look back to see if someone else did my taxes properly, she hesitated but said yes, because I’d be a paying customer at that time.
My favorite part was when she questioned why I even had someone complete my taxes if was now concerned (and even laughed). It was sad I had to explain to a grown adult that had I had those concerns initially, I wouldn’t have gone to that person. Although, her personality in general was pretty unfortunate, especially given she’s in a customer service role!
Find somewhere else to go, literally anywhere else.

If I could give this location zero stars I would. After many issues involving wrong information entered in our tax refund, multiple calls requesting updates with no call back to finally processing the refund with the WRONG address. Now, our refunds are no where to be found. Please do yourself a favor a hire a company that doesn't have hundreds of clients and/or can at least call their clients back after making multiple errors.
