I usually like to work on my own car and avoid shops, but I was genuinely blown away by how quick and easy they made everything. Huge shoutout to Matt!!! Guy was fast, helpful, and got my heater core replaced along with my MK7 recalls without any hassle in the same day!! Their price even beat another shop I was quoted at. Easily a 10/10 experience, and I’ll definitely be coming back.

Unresponsive. I need to cancel a warranty since my car was totaled and I'm not able to move forward with my GAP insurance claim until that warranty is canceled. I've emailed, called and left multiple messages and no one will get back to me.

I made an appointment for a battery replacement because my truck was in a immobilized state.. I bought my own battery they were trying to charge me $300 + TAX alone for a VW battery. I found my own battery was told and googled all information on as to why the truck is in immobilizer state. I replaced my battery on both key fobs. It worked 1 day then went back to a no start and immobilizer state.
My truck was towed to Schmelz on Friday for the battery installation and programming.
Johnny the service advisor calls me stating my truck still won't start after the new battery was installed and programmed.
Well I called him back immediately after he says a diagnostic is $202..there is something else wrong or going on.. I told him I have never had an issue with this vehicle and also told him the things that I know about what I found out about the immobilizer state my trucknis in.
I feel like I knew more about the process of whats going on and I bought my truck here for the battery. They should know that after installation that this new battery and programming takes 15 to 20 minutes after the battery has been disconnected in order for it to calibrate and start..I know this because it's my vehicle and have done the process. I feel ripped off. Never in my life paid $200 to tell me a lie..
JOHNNY calls back and feeds me a line about an aftermarket remote start that I installed that doesn't even exist on my vehicle. (I dont have remote start at all) I bought my truck here in hopes they know because they are the dealership and deal with these vehicle issues daily.
I was married to a mechanic so Im knowledgeable about whats going on.
I was not impressed with the service here. I will be taking my truck to a more trustworthy and more experienced dealership. my truck was towed in due to immobilizer state and I stated this when scheduling battery replacement. My question is why didn't they do the proper protocols for this situation.
I called back and TOLD JOHNNY YOU HAVE TO WAIT AFTER BATTERY install / programming HE SAID TECHNICIAN WILL FIND OUT WHATS GOING ON AND WE'LL CALL YOU BACK. VERY VERY POOR COMMUNICATION HE DIDN'T LISTEN TO ME AT ALL. IF HE DID: he wouldn't HAVE HAD TO CALL ME BACK TO DO A DIAGNOSTIC WHEN THE MACHINE THAT PROGRAMS THE BATTERY IS ALSO A CODE READER AND THAT WOULD HAVE DETECTED A PROBLEM IF THERE WAS ONE. WHICH IT WAS NOT.. I WILL NOT EVER COME BACK TO SCHMELZ VOLKSWAGEN LUTHER HERE WE COME.. MY FRIEND HAS A 2021 CROSS SPORT AND SHE ALSO HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE HERE WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND FINDING THE REAL PROBLEM TO THE VEHICLE. This is very very bad business $200 an hr for a diagnostic that wasn't needed in the 1st place.. I also want the video of service that was done. I will be to pick my truck up this morning and pray to talk to someone that listens without trying to run up a bill with a lie .
I had to add 1 star in order to post.

Not impressed with the service here. Had many issues that we brought a car in for and every time it seems like there were only more issues after the fact. The service department here is hard to work with, unresponsive, expensive, and not friendly. One time a mechanic forgot to put the fastening bolts back on the splash pad under the car, then they charged more than $100 to put it back on. The last time we came in for a replacement part due to a recall, the car was still under warranty. They installed it wrong. We brought it back to get it installed properly, then they made a big deal of explaining how they would do the service “for free this time” even though we expected it to be covered under warranty anyways as it was still under warranty. We will be going elsewhere from now on. You should make more of an effort to actually assist customers.

Great car buying experience here! I live in Phoenix and found a used Alfa in the color I was looking for here at Schmelz. I travelled to St Paul to see the car and subsequently made the purchase. Everybody I dealt with at Schmelz was friendly and helpful, from the lady who answers the phone, to Dan in sales and Seth in finance. Overall a very positive and easy purchase, despite some very poor service from my bank (USAA), Dan and Seth helped get the deal done. If you're looking for an Alfa or VW, be sure to check this place out, you'll be glad you did!

Ben did a great job taking care of me before and after doing the deal for a 500e!

Make sure you dont go there with a bumper sticker with a message in support of vulnerable people. They will treat you like trash. Also, if you take a shuttle from them, you get to hear about a bunch of right-wing propaganda and conspiracy theories from the driver.
Update: I never heard back from management or anyone at this dealership. They clearly don't care. There are plenty kf other VW dealerships that don't treat customers happy to spend money like crap.

I have bought two (2) vws at schmalz. The 2017 Tiguan brought in for a rattle and they tried to sell me a unnecessary $5,000.00 turbo replacement...the car is still being driven 2 years later as is and is doing just fine.
The 2022 Tiguan I bought here, like all 2022 Tiguans, has a defective engine. The piston rings allow oil to pass thru and damage these motors to the point a class action law-suit has been started. Having sold me this lemon the dealership's solution to me is to sell me a worthless, no doubt expensive, 3rd party aftermarket warranty. A 3rd party aftermarket warranty that VW USA and the dealership have no involvement with or liability for. In other words they just want to get another fee out of us for something they won't take responsibility for. Last purchases of VW products for us.

My experience at this dealership was extremely disappointing. Michael A, the representative I dealt with, was not only unhelpful during my very first car lease, but also disrespectful and racially insensitive throughout the process. Instead of being treated like a valued customer, I felt dismissed and disrespected as a person.
To make things worse, he kept telling me that “Minnesota is full of cliques and you won’t make any friends,” which was completely unprofessional, inappropriate, and had nothing to do with leasing a car.
This was my first time leasing a vehicle, and unfortunately I feel I made a mistake by leasing a Volkswagen here. The lack of professionalism, respect, and basic customer care turned what should have been an exciting milestone into a very hurtful experience.
To anyone considering this dealership: be very cautious—especially if you’re a first-time buyer. You may find yourself disrespected, taken advantage of, and left without the support every customer deserves.

I took my new Volkswagen in for an engine check light and the service at Schmelz VW was thorough and they quickly got the problem. I purchase the VW in Eau Claire but I was not as impressed as the professionalism of Schmelz VW. I felt they have a better process and updated me on what they discovered. In the end everything was under warranty however Schmelz just earned a longtime customer… thanks Schmelz VE team. And thanks Martin!!!

Ralph was incredibly helpful from start to finish! Since I was out of state, I was browsing vehicles online, and he promptly answered all of my questions with patience and professionalism. He went above and beyond to get me into the car I wanted as quickly and smoothly as possible. Ralph was not only knowledgeable but also genuinely kind throughout the entire process.
Nate, the finance manager, was equally fantastic. He made the financing process seamless and stress-free, and his expertise and friendly demeanor made a great impression.
Schmelz VW is truly fortunate to have such dedicated and customer-focused employees. Their passion for what they do shines through, and it made all the difference in my experience. I would absolutely purchase another vehicle from this location and will gladly recommend them to others!

I recently worked with Schmelz Countryside to finance a vehicle and it was a pleasure working with them! The salesman I worked with, Ben, was really welcoming, helpful, and kind despite the long process, but I’m truly satisfied with my vehicle and my experience here because of him.
I would 10/10 recommend working with them if they have a vehicle you’re interested in!
