Flying J Travel Center in Northfield, MN, is a large and busy travel stop with many amenities for travelers and drivers. It is part of Pilot Flying J, which has over 750 locations across the U.S. and Canada. The facility offers friendly service, clean restrooms, and a variety of food options, snacks, drinks, and the best coffee on the interstate. It provides fuel with gas, diesel, and DEF using high-speed pumps, along with EV charging stations for electric vehicles. Travelers can enjoy Wi-Fi, overnight parking, and showers, making it convenient for long-distance drivers. The staff is generally friendly and hardworking, and the place is easy to park at, with plenty of options to avoid overflow traffic. However, some concerns have been raised. One reviewer noted that employees followed them to the bathroom multiple times during a 12-hour stay, which felt like profiling and unnecessary. They appreciated management for addressing the issue, but it left a negative impression. The bathrooms are kept clean, but shelves and soda stock are often empty, and some food services like Subway close early. The water quality has been criticized due to a persistent smell, caused by limestone in the water filter that has been out for months, though it is manageable by running the water longer. Parking can sometimes be crowded, especially with trucks taking up spaces meant for tractor-trailers, and there is a request for drivers to park in designated EV charging spots instead. Overall, Flying J Travel Center offers many essential services and amenities for travelers, with friendly staff and clean facilities, despite some issues with water quality, staffing behavior, and stock levels. It remains a practical stop for drivers needing fuel, rest, and food on the road.
Never a good experience. Usually only one clerk checking out customers. Line is usually 9-10 deep and no one comes to assist. Restrooms mostly clean. Gas pumps and parking lot are somewhat trashed up.
