Ash Trail Lodge is a cozy and well-kept resort located near Voyageurs National Park and the Ash River in northern Minnesota. It offers a simple, friendly atmosphere that appeals to those seeking relaxation, nature, and good food at reasonable prices. The lodge features basic rooms, some with private bathrooms and others sharing facilities, with decor reminiscent of a grandmother’s house. While the rooms are not luxurious and lack air conditioning, they are comfortable enough for guests who plan to spend most of their time exploring the natural surroundings. Guests praise the friendly staff, especially the owners, who go out of their way to make visitors feel welcome. The lodge’s restaurant is known for its excellent, home-cooked food, with standout dishes like prime rib and Friday fish fry featuring walleye and hush puppies. Drinks are affordable, and the bar is lively on weekends, offering a friendly environment to meet locals and fellow travelers. Guests enjoy the reasonably priced meals, which are often described as better than average, with some considering the prime rib the best they’ve ever had. Outdoor activities are a highlight, with canoe trips on the Ash River, visits to Voyageurs National Park, and scenic boat tours. The lodge provides free canoe rentals for guests, and the surrounding area offers beautiful spots like Ash River Falls. The community is quiet and peaceful, perfect for relaxation or fishing vacations. Despite being an older property with some structural quirks due to ground movement, the lodge remains clean and well-maintained. Overall, Ash Trail Lodge is recommended for anyone looking for a friendly, authentic Minnesota experience close to natural beauty and outdoor adventures.
For being off fairly remote it was a nice place to have drink & enjoy some good conversation, didn't stay at the resort but it seemed like a well kept resort. The owners are great!

Went to Ash Trail yesterday for dinner! This cozy resort is located on the Ash River adjacent to Lake Kabetogama and Voyageurs National Park. Food was excellent and we experienced nice, friendly service. Food was great and so were the drinks!

Ash Trail lodge is one of my all time favorite resorts. Owners Steve and Deb go the extra mile to make sure your stay is great! The cabins are what you would expect for a traditional Minnesota resort, comfortable, well stocked, homey with that 'up north' feel. Great food in the lodge which is always fun and inviting.
