Went on a half day trip. I hadn't fly fished in years, so I was a bit rusty! Tim was a great guide and took me to some prime water and I caught 15 Browns and one Rainbow. Tim really helped me to improve my cast - he's very observant and a great teacher. Highly recommend taking one of these trips!

We did a half day trip (family of 4)with our guide Tim which was top notch!! We caught a ton of trout and It was a great experience, the owner was very friendly and helpful as well. I would highly recommend these guys!! I never leave reviews but felt this definitely deserved one.

Just finished a day fishing with Tim as our guide. He was very friendly & knowledgeable about the South Root River. I caught seven fish in spite of being a novice fisherwoman. He taught me the best casts & where to look for fish. My hubby & I had a wonderful day!

Tim was our guide and he is an absolute professional and overall great person. Fishing/catching was a bit slow this time of year, but all of our group of three caught fish. Great experience for us beginners. Tim took the time to show us different casting techniques, and the right way to present to the fish. Thanks again for the great time!

My son and I spent a day fishing with Mel and he put us on a ton of fish. Super helpful with casting technique and how to read water and find fish for a couple of beginners. It felt like he genuinely wanted us to be able to find fish on our own too. Just an incredible experience. At the end of the day I actually had to ask Mel to go home. :-) You are gonna get your money's worth!

My Father in law and I did a guided late season trip with Mel in October. Even with limited open water Mel got us exactly where we needed to be and we both had a blast. After being away from the sport for a few years, Mel helped my tune up my cast and gave me plenty of pointers that got fish on my line. As a newcomer to the area, having Mel to show us the water was exactly what we needed. I am highly considering doing another full day this summer.

Tim was a fantastic guide. He took care of everything for us. He put us on more fish than I've seen in all my trips to this region. His knowledge is extensive. Not only does he teach what you need to know to catch fish, he also explains the science behind it. It was one of the best guided experiences in my life.

These guys saved my trip to the area. I had the "fish that got away" break my 5 weight Sage. I went there, and they rented me a rod to get me through to the next day. They also gave me some good tips on flies that were working at the moment as it was my first time there! Thanks guys! I'll be back.

If you want to learn to fly fish, go to Preston MN and spend the day with James Weis who is an outstanding fishing guide for the Driftless Fly Fishing Company. James has been fly fishing since he was about 5 and will introduce you to a sport that you can enjoy for a lifetime. I hired James as a guide to spend a day teaching Jim and me to fly fish. We started the day meeting at The Driftless Fly Fishing Company shop in Preston MN. This shop has everything you need to get started fly fishing, (waders, boots, fly rods, flys, clothing, sun glasses, bags and maps of local trout streams). James provided an excellent overview of fly fishing and selected two streams that we would spend the day at fishing. Once at the streams, James taught us to cast, identifying the correct fly to use and introduced us to the stream. Within 15 min Jim and I both caught our first trout and the smiles continued thru the day. James is a great teacher, very calm, good sense of humor and offers excellent advice.I want to thank James Weis (guide) and Mel Hayner (owner) at the Driftless Fly Fishing Company in Preston MN.Mike ShiversRochester MN
