This garbage company has been great overall. For me, they have been easy to work with and respectful. Setup was straightforward, the service parameters were clear, and aside from the trash bin occasionally being moved and not put back in the correct spot, the drivers have been solid.
Unfortunately, I recently had an experience that led me to remove one star. A family member passed away, and as part of that process the utility services were transferred to the estate. That part went smoothly. The bill was sent to the estate, paid by check, and we assumed it was resolved. For whatever reason, the check was never processed or received. That alone would not have been a big issue.
The problem was that there was not a single letter, bill, or follow up notice before the company sent the balance to the city as a delinquent assessment. No attempt was made to notify the estate that payment had not been received or to request a replacement check.
Since this is the only negative experience I have had, I am still rating the company 4 out of 5 stars. It is just disappointing to lose a star over something that could have been resolved so easily with a simple notice or reminder.

They took my money and did not provide any service! The best part is they refused any refund and would only offer I have to pay full price for them to take an extra week. This company is full of scammers.

Woke up this. A.M. neighbors trash can had been raided by raccoons
Seconds later the trash man came.
He stopped got out of the truck picked up the can and then shoveled it all up.
Amazing
Haven't seen dedication or service like that since I was a kid.
Great job.

We’ve been happy with Hartels for many years….until now. We called to put a stop on our service for six weeks. We were told there would be a $25.00 charge to re-start it! Ridiculous to charge a faithful customer this way!

Only giving a 3 because our current guy will take our trash to the curb and empty it when we forget to move it. He doesn’t have to, but he does. We sincerely appreciate this man. We have him on cam taking our can from our fence, to the curb, and emptying it. However, the payment process needs to be fixed. I can’t pay with visa, because it comes back as fraud every. Single. Time. I do NOT want to keep using my credit cards to pay for trash removal. I want auto pay on my debit card. I’m either changing services, or demanding they reach out to visa and figure it out. It’s not my problem and they told me that on the phone. They said visa was the issue. Yall are a company. Figure it out.

My kid loves garbage trucks. Every time the Hartel's truck comes by to pick up our garbage he has to stop what he is doing and run over to the window to see the truck. He also loves helping his dad bring out the trash to the curb on garbage day. So I called Hartel's with an unusual request... could the garbage truck make a special appearance for my son's birthday party?
Kevin from Hartel's said yes! The garbage truck was a huge hit with the kids and I was surprised how interesting the truck was to me too. Seeing how the truck worked was really fascinating. Kevin was really nice and my kid was so amazed he was speechless. What a great local company!!!

Spend the extra money for waste management or shop for someone else. You will get an online payment option where you can actually see your balance, instead of being sent paper bills every month like it’s 1980.
Lady on the phone was sarcastic and bad to work with, so phone payments are too advanced for them also.
Could this issue have been solved with auto payments? Yes. Do I want them to have my bank information? No.
Anywhere else would be a better fit for your garbage disposal needs.

They favor certain people over others everyone else's recycling got taken except mine he even stopped to grab both the recycling and garbage cans at a neighbors house that never got brought out (I had forgot once and they never did that for me). When I called to explain hey your person literally just went right past my house the last got an attitude

Don’t use hartels especially if you’re a landlord. Write it in your leases that you only allow waste management. If your tenant leaves with unpaid garbage bills hartels will not even attempt to collect unpaid garbage bills from them. They will just tack it right onto your property taxes the following year. Use waste management!

Horrible service ..not only they raised the prices, their “ elite “ drivers not uncommonly forget to pick the trash, so you have to call them on it…
And we noticed that the bill keeping adding charges every month, don’t know what are these charges
Been customers for close to 8 years, we have received a notice they charged a service fee of $ 1.04 for late payment for a check was sent at least a week before the payment was due !
With the same logic, when their drivers forget to pick the trash on their scheduled date , should we start charging them a late fee as well ?!!
Honestly, I don’t know who is responsible for operations of this company, I know the old owner, but don’t know who is running this business
We are moving soon, so we don’t have to deal with them or their terrible service …
Joke of a business, and don’t need to say anything more “trashy” here …

I'm gonna start with people need to accept responsibility for their actions. And let me tell you, this company did just the opposite of that. I was traveling down the highway, far behind one of their garbage truck, and a fairly large object (7-9 inches) flew out of one of their trucks, and cracked my windshield. I called their customer support, which just told me to file a claim under a normal glass breakout, and that they are going to check their gps to see if that truck is still open. Keep That In Mind. I than contacted Dan Hartel, which told me "We don't get into that, as we can't prove anything". Well, I'm sorry to be the one to inform you, but your customer service agent provided that for you. They already proved that they can match up the time and location, AFTER I provided My time and location. And at this point, it's not so much about the repair, it's about getting someone to admit their fault. I haven't gotten one person to say anything related to an apology, or admitting it happened. ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS.

My dad passed recently and the person who helped me close his account was kind and compassionate. This company takes pride in caring for their customers. Highly recommend them.
