This was the best choice of ways to explore Voyageurs National Park, for me. My sister and I chose the 6 hour grand tour and it was worth every penny. You will not get the kind of detailed service and story-telling from anyone else. Bill lived the life in Voyageurs for the entirety of its existence as a national park but also since his childhood. He knows the stories of the people that lived there but even more than that - some of them knew him personally as well because they were neighbors! Not only was Bill kind and helpful to us during our tour, but he also offered many local suggestions for the rest of our stay.I would absolutely do this tour again. I felt very fortunate to have this experience.

Captain Bill shares his love of the area by sharing stories and personal experiences during his decades in the area. His Boston Whaler is very comfortable, but bring a windbreaker.

Not expecting to have any problem booking a boat tour through Voyageurs NP, I found they were booked for a week. Since I didn't want to hang around for a week I searched and found the Border Guide Service. I sent an email to them Thursday night and Friday morning Bill called me back and I was booking a tour for that afternoon. And what a tour it was. Bill has spent his life on the lake, and his family has been here since 1938. He knows the area like the back of his hand. He knows the history of the area as if he lived it, because he did. His stories of meeting legends of the area when he was only 3 or 4, or a young teen, are amazing. His dog Irish is friendly and funny and adorable. Our 4 hour tour turned into 4 and a half hours and not a second of it was wasted. Call Bill to get a tour, you won't regret it.

The best thing that we did on our three week vacation despite the rain and mosquitoes on the tour. Bill and his dog Irish were awesome. Bill knows everything there is to know about the area and is great at communicating it and answering questions. Make sure to go to the bar at Kettle Falls and get a drink, you will definitely not regret it. We plan to go back up and stay at the hotel in the future and will definitely use Bill to take us out there if he is available. I would recommend wearing long sleeves and pants and get the mosquito head cover because when you get off the boat at the stops the bugs are bad. If you are at Voyagers this is the tour you want to do.

It is probably a meeting point for the tours.. I didn't find anything there. I didn't manage to reach them by phone either.

The only way to truly see Voyageurs is by boat. Even though water levels are at a record high our guide was able to get us on the islands to see Ellsworth Gardens, Kettle Falls, etc. I do wish he had said more about the park, given some history when the boat wasn’t moving very fast. I am extremely thankful that I was able to bring my dog along for the ride. I sat in the front of the boat which wasn’t bad until dirt from the bow, that was tracked in by everyone, kept hitting me in the face. We saw eagles and a loon’s nest. All in all, I’d recommend!

Bill,Thank you so much for the tour of a lifetime, from my wife and me. We never dreamed how great of a tour you were going to give us of Voyageurs NP. This was money so well spent. The scenery you showed us, the wildlife we saw will stay in our minds for the rest of our lives. Actually the cost of this trip (5 Lakes trip) was worth more, then what you charged us. My wife and I sure got the deal of a life time from you. We were so very fortunate to learn what you had to say about the region that could only come from someone like yourself, who has spent most of his life here. I sure hope you will take our advice and pass on your knowledge to a younger person, so that the younger generation can benefit from all of your knowledge. I can’t sing enough praises about you and your real life stories. Thank you so much Bill for sharing your life’s stories and experiences with our group that day. Your new boat was so will equipped, that it added so much to our excursion and made the day so much more comfortable. Job well done!

What a wonderful time we had with Bill!! I had the joy of sitting in the front seat and got to hang out with Irish, the co-captain pup. Bill is an absolute wealth of knowledge, stories, and information about this beautiful park. His first hand experience from these waters is well worth your time and money. Highly highly recommend!!

Bill was an outstanding guide. Extremely knowledgable about the area, both currently and the history of it. His boat was clean and comfortable and he was easy to hear on the tour. He was informative, funny, and had several charming stories about growing up in this part of Minnesota.
