Beyond disappointed in your employees!
I wanted to share a disappointing experience I had at Ulta today involving an associate named Sarah. I came in to exchange a tanning serum I had purchased last week, which was linked to my membership profile. I initially started the return with another associate, but was passed off to Sarah because the first person didn’t know how to process an exchange.
Sarah asked me to enter my phone number, which I did, and then requested to see my ID—something I’ve never been asked for when making a return under my profile, but I complied. She then told me she couldn’t locate the purchase and said it would have to be marked as “unverified.”
I showed her the digital receipt on my phone, but she insisted on getting my email address again. After some back and forth, she called over a manager. The manager could clearly see the purchase on my phone and said, “I see the purchase right there.” Sarah then responded, “Well, I guess you’re the manager so you make that decision,” adding that Ulta’s return policy had recently changed to require a physical receipt instead of locating the purchase under an Ulta membership.
If that’s the case, what’s the point of having a membership profile if purchases can’t be verified through it?
Sarah continued to emphasize the new policy multiple multiple times and reminded me that I’ll need to bring a physical receipt next time. She continued with it’s not her fault and that Ulta changed the policy not her. I UNDERSTAND! But the way you speak and treat someone is something you can control. Honestly, with the lack of helpfulness and attitude—especially in a store that wasn’t even busy—it makes me question whether I want to continue shopping at Ulta.
Please train your associates to treat customers with more respect and to better understand your return policies, especially when the purchase is clearly visible and verifiable. I understand policies need to change due to the rise in theft but I am not stealing from you. I needed to exchange a $14 serum for a different color, I didn’t even need my money back. I spent 20 minutes going back and forth about an EXCHANGE.
Oh and, if the return policy has updated, change your receipts! Reading off of the back of my receipt it says the following: “Return Policy: Returns are easy! No need to have your original printed receipt when you make a return if you used your Ulta Beauty Rewards membership number on your purchase.”

I have never been treated so poorly by Ulta staff and I’ve been a loyal customer for over a decade. My first problem was when I asked a pair of employees where something was and they seemed very annoyed by me interrupting their personal conversation while sitting down at the beauty bar. I then went and did an order pick up and needed to do an exchange. 2 different employees couldn’t help me because “they didn’t know how to” and then finally the manager came to assist. She was off putting and told me I couldn’t make the exchange even though I’d already spoken with customer service and they explained that it should not be a problem to simply swap the shade of foundation for the correct one. She offered to do a refund but would only credit me half the price because it “wasn’t in the system”. Again, customer service confirmed it was in the system and that this should not be an issue. I ended up leaving and still have the wrong foundation color that I ordered specifically for a wedding. Absolutely unbelievable and I’m so disappointed.

I had to return and exchange a product. I was approached by very friendly and helpful employees, I was accommodated by a sales person, she met all my needs I was very satisfied.

Today, I went to the Richfield location to pick the correct color for my skin tone. It's hard to justify online photos. If you want a color that truly matches your skin, don't be lazy; visit a store near you and talk to the artists there.
Heather was the dear who helped me today. She is a very patient woman. She helped me with every item I had on my list. We went through it one by one and figured out the right color for me. She didn't show a slice of tiresome during our time together. She invited me to sit down in the beauty station, put the makeup on, and offered feedback so I was able to decide the best color for my skin. I'm ecstatic now. I prefer to purchase online, but I know what color to buy. I won't be buffling anymore. Thanks to Heather, she listened to my needs and was super patient with me the entire time. What a great experience at Ulta Beauty. I surely let the store manager know that Heather is excellent. In the end, Heather offered me a gift before I left the store. What a lovely person.

Fast and friendly customer service. The ladies were all willing to help and answer the many questions I had (sorry lol). I even found a product in stock that is being discontinued from UD! Win Win!

Julie P has been doing my hair for the past 7-8 years and she always does the best job. I always come out feeling amazing and looking exactly like my inspo pictures. She is a great and reliable hairstylist and I highly recommend coming to her for your services.

Hate her haircut
I was scheduled for a haircut at ULTA RICHFIELD. upon going there miss julie did my hair cut(butterfly hair cut with bangs). I dont see layers in my hair also bangs she cut is so short. I cried a lot after the hair.
she chopped my hair after the blow dry saying last minute changes. Is this butterfly hair cut?????

I’m not terribly picky with my hair as long as it doesn’t get fried off, but this is the one salon I’ve been to that doesn’t leave me feeling like I paid an arm and a leg for a mediocre balayage. Julie is incredibly talented and her hair page on Instagram is such an accurate reflection of her work! The 2 times I’ve gone to her so far she has 100% delivered both times

I like this ulta. The people are helpful and not overly pushy. The perfect balance!
Also, they carry via glaze mail polish. :)
Unfortunately, someone tried to shoplift this morning when I was there. If this was you, you are awful. Don't do that!

This place is an assault on the senses. The entire store smells like cheap STRONG perfume and you can't escape it. It honestly smelled like someone had passed gas and they were trying to cover it up. Sorry to be crude, but that's the best way I can describe it. And they were blasting Top 40 music that you also could not ignore. Not exactly a fun place to browse, more like a place where you get what you need as fast as you can and get the hell outta there!

I love all the experiences I’ve had at the salon at Ulta! My stylist is Maddie, who I see to color and trim my pixie cut every month! She is so talented. I also love the atmosphere and friendly staff, Theresa and Kai are fun to talk to as well! 5 stars all the way.
