Hy-Vee in Rochester has become my regular grocery store for a few key reasons: the friendly atmosphere, the wide selection, and the overall quality of their offerings. It's more than just a place to pick up groceries; it feels like a community hub.
On my most recent trip, I was stocking up for the week, needing everything from fresh produce and meat to pantry staples and a few specialty items. Hy-Vee consistently delivers on all fronts.
The produce section is always a highlight. The fruits and vegetables are fresh, vibrant, and well-maintained. They have a good selection of both conventional and organic options, catering to different preferences and budgets. I was particularly impressed with the quality of their berries this time – perfectly ripe and flavorful.
The meat and seafood counter is another area where Hy-Vee shines. The butchers are knowledgeable and helpful, and they offer a wide variety of cuts and preparations. I picked up some fresh chicken breasts and a couple of salmon fillets, and they looked and smelled fantastic.
Beyond the fresh departments, Hy-Vee also has a great selection of grocery items, including a well-stocked bakery, a wide variety of international foods, and a decent selection of natural and organic products. I appreciate that they carry both national brands and their own private label, which often offers good value.
One of the things that sets Hy-Vee apart is the customer service. The staff are consistently friendly, helpful, and eager to assist. From the cashiers to the stockers to the employees in the deli and bakery, everyone seems genuinely invested in providing a positive shopping experience. It makes a big difference.
Hy-Vee also offers a number of convenient services, such as online ordering with curbside pickup or delivery, which I’ve used on occasion when I’m short on time. They also have a pharmacy, a floral department, and often a dine-in or take-out food service area, making it a true one-stop shop.
While Hy-Vee’s prices might be slightly higher than some discount grocery chains, I feel that the quality of the products, the excellent customer service, and the overall shopping experience justify the cost. They also have weekly specials and a loyalty program that offers additional savings.
Overall, my experiences at Hy-Vee in Rochester have been consistently positive. It’s a clean, well-organized store with a friendly atmosphere and a great selection of high-quality products. It’s become my preferred grocery store for its combination of quality, convenience, and excellent customer service. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a pleasant and reliable grocery shopping experience.

They've done it again. Have not been to HyVee for well over one year , due to always being out of certain "Big Sale" items on the 1st day of sale; ie; bacon in particular, eggs, etc, "loss leaders". It's not a rare occurrence. Ads on TV and on internet last couple of days, "Three day Mega sale"...."Friday, Saturday, and Sunday". "Farmland bacon, all varieties, $2.99". This was the last fiasco that stopped me going there, they were out back then on FIRST day and no rainchecks. Went in at 11:00 AM this Saturday morning (1/18/25) (Note sale is Fri, Sat, Sun) Yup, All out. 3 kids working (or joking back and forth next to empty bacon cooler; I had to literally shout "EXCUSE ME" three times) to ask if they had more. They didn't know. One kid did say I'll ask the "meat guy" while the others continued joking. A helpful smile in every aisle? Horsepucky!
That person came over and talked to me, looked stuff up, said I'll be back and went to find someone ELSE to help me. About 10 mns later, a fella comes out with 4 or 5 boxes of Farmland. In chatting with him:
They only had the classic cut. No applewood, no thick sliced.
When asked how can you be out halfway thru the sale, he stated "they only send us a few boxes, we have no control over what we get or what is in the ad". He was nice enough, and also agreed this is just a crock of BS! Your store has NO CONTROL over your ad...or what you get...or how much...?!? isn't that considered FALSE ADVERTISING, or the ol' bait and swich? Being it's happened numerous times, I just filed an online complaint with Mn AG to get their views on this crooked crap. This time, I WILL NOT be back, nor will anyone I can talk out of going there for their C'mon tactics. I worked with the state department and others, and know an enticement scam when I see it. I want to hear their full explanation on this one. Manager, are you listening? We're going to have a few words on this one. Didn't HyVee get dinged for this type of thing for profit margins with their vendors, filed by their vendors? I do appreciate the "meat guys" doing their best to help. The teens; not so much. You see empty holes, fill 'em!!! The "meat guy" was able to! Duh! Time to return to the customer service classes and relearn restocking. Mgmnt is the ones that are the big guilty party to this scam.
Back to the stores that actually have the sale product and not empty holes and excuses.
