The hotel does not offer pick up/drop off to/from the airport. The staff was friendly and helpful except for the bar staff who acted like serving us was a burden. They also closed early on a Saturday night. The restaurant and bar are over-priced for the mediocre food they serve. The bed was okay but the pillows were awful. I woke up with my neck hurting the first night so I slept without a pillow the second night. They switched their HVAC to heat only so we both woke up sweating. There is no complimentary water in the room but you can buy a bottle of water for $6.00. The fridge fits about two drinks only. There is no microwave in the room. They only give you two bath towels. The room rate was much higher one night due to an event close by. No parking on site. I could hear everything in the hallway day and night. The positives: hotel staff, aside from the wait staff, are helpful and friendly. The hotel is pretty and located in downtown. The room and common areas were very clean. Fairly close walk to several restaurants and bars.We will be booking a more accommodating hotel nearby on our next visit.

Me and some friends were there to be in the parade Saturday. We stopped to get breakfast and had no idea they were under staffed big time. They had no bartender working, so it took at least 15min to get a bloody Mary. So we ordered something simple, pancakes. They finally came an hour later, the side of bacon was barely warm. One order of pancakes wasn't even cooked. Very disappointed for my first time there.

This is a Saint Paul institution! It is a classic hotel in every sense of the word. The photo is from the front doors looking out. In the frame is The Ordway, Rice Park, St Paul Cathedral and the Landmark Center all of which have great historical significance to St Paul!

This hotel has the old hotel feel without the old hotel amenities. This is a nice historic hotel that has preserved all of the good things about being a classic hotel while keeping up with modern amenities. From the door man in a top hat to the winding staircases, it's a beautiful place. The room could use a few more outlets but no complaints otherwise. The beds are very comfortable and I would recommend the breakfast quesadilla in the restaurant.

Very nice historic hotel. We used the valet for parking and just left it parked the whole weekend. There is a shuttle at the hotel for close drop offs is needed but you can walk and tour downtown. Restaurant is nice, great bar staff, the fitness center is 3 rooms deep! Quiet night's sleep. Very helpful, courteous staff. Will definitely come back and stay when the weather is warmer.Rooms: Stayed in a corner suite, and it was very spacious. Nice to have the sitting area. QuietWalkability: Less than a mile walk to the capital, Keg and Case, cave tour, stores and restaurants across the street, and down the blockFood & drinks: Restaurants surround the hotel,Restaurant and bar also on site

Perfect walkable location from the Xcel Energy Center. We had a corner room with great views. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Valet was top notch. We stayed over for the Madonna concert and there was a long line for the elevators. The front desk attendant allowed those in line to use the staff elevator. One note: the items in the rooms for the mini bar are weight sensitive so the room will be charged when you pick them up…even if you don’t open them. However, I talked to the front desk and they kindly reversed the charges. Note to self: look with eyes not hands. ?

I took my girlfriend here for brunch for her birthday. The website had two brunch menus - brunch buffet and ala cart. I initially expected to have the option but the only option was ala cart. Not a big deal but a little disappointing.Dining room was empty but we were seated right next ti the payment station anyway so we were constantly interrupted by that, and the waitress was so nice but hovered.I ordered shrimp and grits while my wife ordered eggs Benedict. Her meal was fine, nothing exceptional or terrible. My meal was honestly disgusting. The grits were overwhelmingly sweet, I could barely eat them. They have chipotle honey and I asked the actress if it was normally incredibly sweet and she asked the chef, who said it’s a little sweet and the saltiness of the shrimp balances it out. I ended up just eating the shrimp without the grits because when I paired the two, the shrimp was overpowered totally by the sweetness and it was gross. It was disappointing.Service was great, though, and our waitress was sweet. She even lit a candle in my girlfriend’s hashbrowns and sang to her for her birthday. She made up for the disgusting grits and wasted 25-30 bucks I spent on them.

We stayed one night during the Winter Carnival, it is a tradition, we have been doing this for years. It was generally a good experience, however I think this grand ole institution is slipping, showing its age. The entire facility is showing signs of poor maintenance. i.e. lots of chipped paint, worn out assets, and dirt, etc. This seems unwarranted based on it's location, reputation, prices. This place is not cheap and they charge extra for everything. I find it especially disappointing that in the hotel restaurant they charge a 4% "hospitality" fee. With a fine print proviso that says you can protest and they will cancel it. Really? That is downright "tacky" low level money/greed tactics. They have raised menu prices significantly, there is no need for a "hospitality" fee. As such, I just deducted 4% from the server tip. As a former restaurant owner/operator, a hospitality fee goes to the company, not necessarily to the employees and it is taxable income for the company. Tips go to the employees, and cannot be touched by the company. This 4% hospitality fee is just a negotiable 4% price increase on top of the price increase they just implemented.
