So, I'm onward to ANOTHER hobby and this one involves wood. Specific hardwoods in general and I've been wondering where I could get these hardwoods besides the usual brick and mortar box stores. While looking online for used machinery I came across Discount Lumber Outlet's ad and was intrigued. So instead of hunting for tools I switched gears and websites and discovered another hidden gem. DLO is a mom n pop shop owned and run by the same guy for 30+ years quiety tucked away on a side street of Co. Rd. 46. Not only do they have a large selection of North American hardwoods but an interesting selection of exotic lumber too, some(most) I've never heard of! The place is unassuming and missing the hustle bustle and craziness of the big box stores and Jake, the guy running the show is knowledgeable, friendly and available for all your questions. He shows you the warehouse and invites you in to peruse the floor at your leisure, and to holler at him if you need anything. They charge by linear foot, and I think some by board ft. but check on that. I've seen some reviews about prices/pricing but for me it's worth it. Their competition is on the far side of mpls. and as far as St. Cloud! Am I running to those places for the amounts I need? Of course not. Folks like me who are in the Southeast or Southwest metro, this is the place to go. I should also mention they are the only place around here who has S4C lumber(that's lumber cut on 4 sides)and a fully functional saw/mill shop available to assist with cuts and planing. Ask em about their butcher block/cabinetry top blocks. They'll make em for ya! Ask for Jake and you'll likely get a visit from Roo, his dog!

Great selection and friendly, helpful staff. The inventory rotates slightly, giving you lots of options and different choices every month. Prices on off-cuts are very reasonable unless you are talking about black walnut, which is a little overpriced here. Overall one of my favorite hardwood suppliers in the area.

I suppose like any place, there are pros and cons here. Not sure yet the word "Discount" belongs in the name. They sell by the LINEAR foot and not by the industry standard BOARD foot. When i got home and did the math.... i paid a premium price. So that's the bad.On the plus side, the guy there was friendly. They have a nice selection. Most of their lumber is S4S, which DOES command a higher price than rough cut or SLR.So in sum...1. Nice people2. Nice selection of quality lumber3. Some rare species4. Bring multiple credit cards, you're gonna need them.

Sign says open, but doors locked and no one came to the door and it’s 3 in the afternoon. All good if you aren’t open but would be nice if hours were updated

Reviews that are telling you they have great prices haven't been to other hardwood lumber suppliers. Great selection yes but they're considerably more expensive than Siweks or Renebergs.

This is not a discount lumber shop at all. They have a great variety and honestly they may be the only place in the area for some species but the main hardwoods like walnut, maple, etc are 1 to 3 $ more per linear foot than larger (non big box) lumber yards in the metro. I'd say if you are looking for cut offs or really exotic wood this is worth a look but for any project of any size there are better options for your money.

Nice selection of domestic and exotic woods. Prices are great, and the staff will work to get you want you want if it's not in stock. Staff are knowledgeable about the woods, the pros and cons of each. For woodworkers, this is a great place.
