AVOID, AVOID, AVOID Not serious about running a business, he says one thing and then doesn't show up or answer phone calls. Shame on you for acting in business. No ethics what so ever.

I highly caution the public to use Matt/MJL Outdoors for boat repair and maintenance and storage services. In Oct, 2022, I had Matt/MJL winterize my fishing boat (150 HP Mercury Verado), including oil change, and replace wheel bearings on trailer. Work was to be completed in a couple weeks so boat could be taken to storage for the winter. I did not get my boat back until end of April, 2023 (6 months). During these months, I had called multiple times and never once had a call answered or a message returned. The only way I was able to communicate with Matt/MJL to find out status of my boat was i if I went to his property (25 miles away).I spoke with the Chisago County Sheriff’s office about my situation and they indicated they have taken multiple calls about Matt/MJL Outdoors in the past about similar situations. Even so, situation was not a criminal situation only a civil situation so there was not much they could do to help me.Due to Matt/MJL lack of communication and awful customer service, I felt unsure if the work he charged me for was actually done. When I finally got my boat back in April, I took the boat to marine dealer and learned from their examination that oil of motor was not changed. Not only was it not changed from prior year, the oil in the motor was conventional oil. Mercury Verado engines require full synthetic oil. Upon review of receipt for boat services performed by Matt/MJL, I was charged for oil change and 6 qts of synthetic oil ($255). In addition to all this, Matt/MJL wanted to charge me for winter storage of my boat???I warn customers from using Matt/MJL for any boat services. He is unreliable on timing of work, he does not return calls nor communicate at all about status, and he charges for services not performed.Service: General repairs & maintenance

Have used MJ Outdoors for service work on 2 of my boats in the past. Matt has done good work and good prices. Small shop but does a good job and gives honest opinions on if things really need to be done or not.

This man is a joke. Had our boat for 5 months didn't do a single thing to it except cut a huge hole in it. Paif half upfront and he was dodging every call. Almost had to call the sheriff to get my boat back. I would give negative stars if I could.

I “used” Matt for repairs on my boat a year ago. Complete mistake his repairs failed at least three times.... then he stopped returning my calls. He never did end up fixing the issue I went to him for. I then went to Another mechanic who fixed my issues first try and have not had issues since. Run away from this business quickly. If you don’t believe my review just see his Facebook profile.Service: General repairs & maintenance

Do not use this business for boat repairs!!!!!!! Will not return calls...will not answer phones...was suppose to winterize and did not, causing engines seals to freeze and wreck lower unit. Had to have sheriffs help to recover the boat!Services: General repairs & maintenance

I have used Matt's services ever since I moved up here to this beautiful lakes area. Matt has consistently gone out of his way to be helpful, ethical, and hard-working in his services of storing my boats, putting them back in, and taking the dock in and out. He has a new location which affords him more indoor working space for repairing and upgrading boats. I would highly recommend his services.

This is one of those places that makes great mechanics have a bad name. I have brought my boat to them for a quick fix (steering line replaced and steering fluid topped off) something that should have been a quick turnaround. 2 weeks later they said it was done, and i hauled it 2 hours up north to go fishing with friends and it was worse then before I dropped it off.I brought it back they said a B.S. line and told me they would fix it. 3 weeks later they called me and said it was done, I went back and checked it. It was not fixed I called them out on it, they wanted to charge me a gen. I said no and they went off calling me names and swearing at me.There are meany great mechanics out there and this place doesn't have a one of them I would not trust them with anything.
