My husband decided to surprise me for a little spontaneous/overnight getaway for my birthday at Bluefin Bay! Last year at this time I was going through a major surgery to have a tumor removed from my esophagus so needless to say the only celebration we wanted was a successful surgery and another year on this beautiful earth! I was beyond pumped as we love going up north (typically Duluth area as we're from the Twin Cities) and I just desperately wanted a positive experience for this year's birthday celebration. Overall we enjoyed our stay. The views are what make the price "worth it". Lake Superior is so absolutely stunning!! That said, we realized very quickly that there weren't many food options in the area. My husband eats basic food (think chicken and fries) which the restaurant on site didn't offer so that was a bummer. We went out of town to a little bar and some of the condiments with our meal were expired so we ended up eating gas station snacks for dinner instead after getting/paying the bill and leaving. It would have been amazing if guest services had some grab and go items so we wouldn't have to leave the complex. Maybe something that could be considered in the future!? The staff were super welcoming upon checking in. Their is a super cute general store about 12 minutes north though that was just adorable and straight out of a Hallmark movie. Now onto the rooms - definitely cute and decently cleaned for main surfaces. We stayed in unit 40B. There were quite a few cobwebs in our unit and the amount of dust on the fan in the master was pretty disturbing. I work in healthcare at a hospital so tend to be pretty particular about cleanliness. The bed was not comfortable sadly and the handle to open the windows to listen to the waves was broken on the left window. It opened and closed but definitely needed to be tightened as it was very slow and didn't work appropriately. Not an issue necessarily in the winter with the temps but would be very frustrating in the warmer months. The chromecast however was EPIC!!! Not sure if all units offer that, but it's the first place we've stayed at with it and we're so excited to use it! Room service also came to surprise us with free champagne which was such a sweet touch and SO appreciated!! The parking was a bit disastrous so I'm scared as to what things are like in the summer. People started parking in the guest services area because there was nothing open. I'm curious what happens when all the spots are taken!? We waited around until a car left to get a spot in the lot. The pool/hot tub/sauna was all very nice! Unfortunately a guest decided to smoke in the hot tub while we were trying to enjoy it which was annoying but what can you do... Overall, great experience, a lot that could be improved upon but we'd give it another chance for a future stay!! The ocean waves truly offer such a peaceful experience and the guest book in our unit was so fun to read! One suggestion would be to keep the book out on the main table as it was hidden a bit so makes sense why most of the responses were old. Regardless, thank you for helping give us a chance to celebrate another year after what was a very scary one for our family last February.

Favorite family tradition is our annual June trip after school lets out. Going on 8 years this summer, I think?! Views of Lake Superior cannot be beat and we fall asleep to the sound of the waves crashing right outside the bedroom.Food & drinks: Upscale food, can be hard to find suitable choices for little kids. Everything I’ve tried has been delicious!

"My experience at this hotel was truly a disaster. Despite the spectacular photos, the rooms turned out to be old and neglected. I initially booked a room that had no bed, just a sofa bed without bedding. After switching rooms, the new one had a bed, but the smell of smoke was unbearable, likely due to chimney issues. Fortunately, my stay was only for one night. The only redeeming qualities were the lake view and the tasty restaurant. Overall, the experience did not live up to the advertised standards and was not worth the price."

Great spot to visit on the North Shore! Located right in Lutsen & isn't too far away from Duluth, MN or Grand Marais, MN.Love how beautiful the rocks are on the shore.

Amazing place. I rarely take the time to write reviews and I have been more than satisfied with my stay here. The two ladies working the desk the night of 1/29/24 are incredible. Very friendly and welcoming. Hot tub and sauna were amazing and in great working order. Food was amazing and they had live music at the restaurant which was also amazing. 5/5 would highly recommend if you want a truly amazing memory. Room was super clean, spacious, nice and very reasonable.Thank you!!!!

It was a beautiful resort! They had everything from snowshoes, spikes for shoes for those icey hikes and skates for ice skating to lots of complementary tea, coffee and hot chocolate! All the workers were extremely sweet and helpful. We also took a wood burning class with Joe who is also very knowledgeable with plants. We will definitely be back!

I paid $575.00 for two nights in a stairs only three story tiny two bedroom loft with two queen sized beds. The loft does not have appropriate heating and some areas, i.e. the bathroom and hallway stayed cold. The wallpaper was falling off the walls. There are scuffs, scratches, dents all over in the outdated rooms. The beds are uncomfortable and the lines are not enough, so bring your own pillows and blankets. The furniture and pictures on the walls do not match and are outdated. There are no USB ports by or on the night stands. There was not enough parking so we found ourselves walking alot. The only thing we really appreciated were the views and having a place to lay our heads. For the price Bluefin is certainly not worth it.

I wanted to love this place because several colleagues highly recommended this resort. We were celebrating our anniversary and they brought us a bottle of champagne which was a very nice surprise. I’m listing the pros and cons. The pros were 5 stars and the cons 0 stars. For reference, this review is based on unit 67A.Pros:1. Joe in activities is wonderful. He led 2 guided hikes and was so knowledgeable. The other staff we encountered were also pleasant.2. The views from our unit were wonderful.Cons:1. Our unit was cleaned shortly before we arrived. Unfortunately, it was done very poorly. This was a pet friendly unit and I was fine with that. I did think a deeper cleaning would be done but I don’t think any cleaning was done. The carpets, hard floors, and counters all had pet hair on them. We never felt comfortable walking on the floors in our socks because they would be covered in pet hair. Even sitting on the sofa left us covered in pet hair. I had to wipe down surfaces to ensure we didn’t have pet hair in our food.2. The dishes, cookware, and glasses/cups were all dirty with dried on food. We wanted tea the first night and every cup was crusty. The next morning each plate and glass had the same dried food stuck on. We had to run everything through the dishwasher before using things. We also went to grab a pot and noticed they all had standing water that had a moldy smell. There was enough water that it could be poured off.3. Our unit had a king bed and we were happy for this. Unfortunately, this bed was the most uncomfortable of any we’ve slept on. It was so hard that my back/body was hurting after the first night. I tried to sleep on the couch but it was equally firm and uncomfortable. I slept a little in a chair but this was not conducive to good sleep. I even tried to put the extra blanket on the bed for extra cushion, but this did nothing. I’ve had much better beds in little roadside motels.4. Other reviews have mentioned how ‘tired’ the units were and I would agree. The carpet is dirty and worn, the wood floors were heavily scratched, and overall, the unit was in need of a spruce up.When you pay more than $400 per night (includes taxes), you should be able to expect a clean place with comfortable furniture. Sadly, the value is not there. Unfortunately, I don’t think we’d return here. There are a lot of places to stay and I think we’ll find a new place for our yearly trip north.

We spent a night there after deciding to extend our trip to the North Shore and our original hotel not being able to accommodate the extra night. The view of the lake was spectacular, rooms clean, and service good For the price there is definitely room for improvement. The door to our room barely opened or closed like it was jammed. They have big jacuzzi tubs but we couldn't even fill it half way without the water turning ice cold. There were spots in the room where wallpaper was lifting and the temperature of the room was impossible to regulate to a comfortable temperature. Overall for the price, I'd probably check out another option on the lake before I went back. Dinner at their restaurant was phenomenal!

Fantastic, but the pullout couch kinda sucked to sleep on.
