Wow! This place is other worldly! The mile long bog walk is great! Check out an unusual biome. So many mushrooms, red peet moss, and spindley pine trees. Fall is the perfect time to go...no mosquitoes! The bog walk is about 10 miles from the visitor center. Close to the visitor center is the campgrounds. It is sweet with a bunch of electric sites and some on the water. Across the road is the beach area on Red Lake. Beach is soft sand and the lake is massive, peaceful and beautiful. Would be a great place to bring the boat and fish! Fish cleaning station at campgrounds as well. Would definately recommend.

One of the most unique experiences in Minnesota. Well, it's worth a visit. Easy walk. Well maintained. If you are in this area, it's worth a look.

We did the bog walk pretty quick out and back because there was a storm coming. But this year we camped in the big bog Campground and I did the Hundred Foot fire tower 135 steps. It was a beautiful view from the top.Restrooms: Nice sites, not very level, but we travel with leveling blocks, so we were fine. Clean bathrooms with nice warm water for showers. Bugs weren't as bad as we thought they'd be. The staff in the visitors center were super friendly and very knowledgeable!

Big Bog offers a quiet, peaceful experience we were seeking. Fishing, hiking, swimming, and canoeing were all available and enjoyed! Friendly helpful staff added to our wonderful visit!

just had our first experience at a mn state park cabin, and our first visit to big bog. we stayed in cabin 6 for a chilly winter weekend and mostly had the park to ourselves. the gas fireplace in the cabin was awesome for heating and ambiance. we enjoyed walking across the street to red lake and walking the campground. we drove up to the boardwalk in the northern unit, but it was quite difficult walking without snowshoes. the 24/7 hot shower and flush toilet is a wonderful perk especially during the winter months. we’ll be back.

Loved staying at the cabin! I went with my grand kids! Bunk bed were cozy, we had our own blankets and pillows. I brought a portapotty for the kids, so glad I did!

Simply delightful. I have one older dog that had to be toted the entire way and another that was a trooper but had to be carried out as well. Definitely bring water, the shade gets very sparse.

We stayed in a camper cabin and it was warm and cozy. They have a nice shower and bathroom at the nearby visitor center open year round, a quaint little river to kayak or canoe and the big lake is great for Walleye fishing. Up north we walked the bog walk that was very interesting. Cant testify to the mosquito population as our stay was in the late fall. We will definitely be back.

Amazing Minnesota experience. Although the bog in mid September isn't nearly as active as it would have been in May (less birds and wildflowers), there was still many things to look at. The cabins were clean, comfortable and far enough a part for privacy

Visiting the big bog north area is a unique experience and very educational. The boardwalk was really cool with lots of interpretive signs. However after about 3/4 of a mile I hadn't seen anything new for quite a while so I turned around and went back. The weather was breezy and we had absolutely no problem with bugs. I'm happy I went there because it's such a unique place!

Campgrounds are nice as well as the cabins. Wifi exists but only in the visitor center. Visitor center is supposed to open at 9am but they open it late. Maybe their clock is slow- not too sure.Showers by the campgrounds smell and not upkept super well, but well enough. No stall for family that I could see - was individual sized shower stalls. They all have a door.Families should probably shower where the ranger station is.Careful where you choose your campsite as it can be super close to the highway. So look at a map first before choosing.

This place is amazing. Has a small campground on the Tammarack river and access to Red Lake where you can leave your boat in the water while you camp. Has a few camper cabins, a fire tower, swim beach and day use area, and a small visitor center. There is a few hiking trails plus a 1 mile elevated bog walk on the biggest peat moss bog in the lower 48 at the North unit. You will find a few plants unique to this environment.

The tower is awesome. 138 steps to the top. Amazing view! The boardwalk was also worth taking!
