Great place to foster or adopt a pet from. Most pets come with rabies shots, microchipped, spayed/neutered.

I adopted Zeus (Jasper) from this animal shelter. Despite the fact that I love my little hyper Zeus to pieces, he was diagnosed with heartworm. I've had him for 2 months now, and the vet stated that he's had it for over 6 months by now... To think that all of the animals that are kept outside at this facility probably have heartworm. It would be nice if testing for heartworm was as important as being spayed or neutered before adopting out... Now for extra expenses due to their negligence

The hardworking crew here deserve a pat on the back and public support. They work long hours and truly care about the sweet animals in their care. Our family drops off donations monthly and applaud the staff for all they do. Please also consider supporting events and fundraising by the Friends of the Horn Lake Animal shelter. ?

Went to fill out an application and told they would get back with me. They never gave me a call back. There’s a reason their dogs stay there so long without being able to find homes.

Responsiveness is saddening. Most of the employees don't even know state and local laws. They wouldn't be so full ALL the time if they opened on days and hours that people are actually OFF WORK. When they host adoption events, they do an absolutely pitiful job of advertising. Simply making fliers to put up around DeSoto county would bring way more people in.. I don't recall his name but when I went and donated hundreds of dollars in toys and treats, the animal control "officer" that came to the door was clearly annoyed and acted like I was being a bother... They tell you on the door to call then DON'T ANSWER THE PHONE. This is the only kill shelter in DeSoto county and they bring it on themselves at the cost of innocent lives... Most people don't use Facebook so posting your events there is shooting yourself in the foot. They need a director that knows how to run a business and hire people that care... Why would anyone want to work in a place that isn't willing to help themselves... Pay your employees a liveable wage and get your act together... This shelter has always been the worst in DeSoto county and it's clear they aren't going to get better unless they get a director that knows what they're doing ..

Was told on the phone a dog I wanted was available only to be told I wasn’t worthy because our previous dog was hit by a car. I get the concern but I also expressed to them I had lived at that location for 33 years and it was the only dog we have lost that way. The conditions of the facility looked poor with dogs In kennels on the ground. I would have provided a much better home than the animals have there. In my opinion they are doing a poor job of decision making going on their hunches about people. The director made my decision without talking to me personally or trying to meet me. The area also is way back near a railroad track and gps gets you lost trying to find it. The facility looks overcrowded as well so it irks me to be turned down. Horn Lake should be ashamed.

Told me I was getting the dog after he is neutered..Drove 2 hours to meet him and fell in love.. They told me I could come back Friday and pick him up then I called just to check in with him and got told that I can’t he can’t come with me….I feel cheated out of a chance to give that baby such a loving home now he is gonna spend it there where there is no freedom/love for him…

Um I think it should be made known to the public that it no longer exists because we tried finding it and GPS claimed it was in the middle of the road and it wasn't. It was a very creepy abandoned part of the city.

The people who work tirelessly to make sure these animals are taking care of are angels. They deserve every kindness in the world. The city of horn lake should be ashamed to the conditions their animal shelter is in. You can clearly tell how under funded the shelter is. I hope the city will do better in getting funds to those who don't have a voice.

Drove 60 miles just to find out you have to make an appointment and it takes 48 hours for them to get back to you after feeling out an adoption application
