This was by far the worst experience I have ever had at Taylor Grocery. My family and I have been loyal customers for years, but our recent visit left a sour taste in our mouths. We were mere bystanders to a chaotic and unacceptable situation. One of the wait staff spilled food on another customer, and instead of properly handling the situation, the management had the audacity to ask the affected customer to leave. This family, whom I don't even know, had two young children with them who were obviously scared after the employee slammed the kitchen door, sending food flying all over them. It was a disgrace to witness such unprofessional and disrespectful behavior from an employee. Our entire night was ruined, and to top it off, the food was clearly affected by the actions of these two individuals. I truly hope that the family affected by this incident reaches out to the ownership, because my family and I will not be returning anytime soon. I can only imagine that this family will never step foot in this establishment again, and I don't blame them. This kind of treatment towards paying customers is absolutely unacceptable.

Customer service was horrible. The owner needs to learn how to talk to people. Attitude was unsatisfactory.

First time but recommended. The atmosphere was awesome. Went on Sunday pm. It was packed so we had a wait but well worth it. Country 2 piece band, that was great. Our wait staff was incredible! The 2 ladies that waited on us were friendly and efficient. Then-the catfish and hush puppies!! Crisp, white fish with an incredible taste. Chocolate cobbler for dessert!!This is a restaurant that should be on your Mississippi bucket list!

I had a very good experience. I had the catfish, and it was AMAZING, I am from Chile, and I have eaten a lot of kind of preparation with fishes but none as delicious and taste as this. The dessert is also delicious. The waitresses were very kind and nice. It's really a place that I am going to miss, since I am not from this area.

The food was mediocre. Nothing that I couldn't get from another restaurant in Oxford. The service is really what I want to talk about. Our waiter was so rushed because people are constantly waiting on tables. She didn't even give me the chance to fully get my order out, so whenever it came, it was wrong and she wanted to charge me extra for asking for toast instead of hushpuppies (which she should have made clear whenever we ordered if she wasn't in such a rush). This same waiter dropped a piece of my chicken when bringing the food out. I told her and then she proceeded to TOUCH MY FOOD to separate the chicken tenders on my plate whilst knocking off some of my fries onto the table which she took back with her as well. When she did bring me another piece of chicken out, it was the smallest tender that they could find. I can't comprehend why people wait in line at this place for hours to get in. Truly.

First time there, such a neat building & the food was good. This place is known for the catfish, which I do not eat, so I tried the dozen shrimp, half fried & half grilled. They were delicious. Live music was nice, we enjoyed it.

We finally got over to Taylor Grocery for dinner. The day before our visit, I was chatting with an elderly lady who grew up in, and still lives in Taylor who advised me “if you want to eat on a Friday night, you better be on the bench at 4:30 or you won’t get in the door.” Well, we took her advice and arrived at 4:30 pm sharp – the bench was already full! But…they have a lot of tables and we were able to get in on the first wave. And yes, they do strictly enforce the requirement that your entire party must be present to get a table. We were promptly waited on by Melissa who was a wonderful waitress, hostess, and a bit of a “trail guide” as we explored the menu. If you have never been to Taylor Grocery, my suggestion is to do what we did and that was to order a couple of appetizers, especially the sampler plate. This plate includes catfish fillets, boneless “wings”, hush puppies, and shrimp, all of which provides a sneak peak into what a person might want to order for dinner. The catfish was awesome! It was perfectly cooked and its light and tender texture resulted in two of us ordering a catfish entrée. The others at the table ordered the grilled double pork loin chops served over brown rice and smothered in gumbo.ALL OF THE FOOD WAS TOP NOTCH AND EXACTLY WHAT I WAS EXPECTING AND WANTING from Taylor Grocery. There is clearly something’s going on back in the kitchen that makes the food so great. I’m not sure what it is but they, whoever it is that’s back there, needs to keep on doing whatever it is that they are doing that is so good. Green beans – absolutely delicious, just like my mom used to make. Turnip Greens – better than the green beans especially when doused with a bit of the “pepper vinegar” that is made in-house and comes to the table in an old tequila bottle. Gumbo – Terrific – nothing is spared in the gumbo, by itself, a bowl of this and a handful of the hushpuppies is about all a person might need. I’m pretty sure I could take a bath in a tub of that gumbo and enjoy every minute of it. The fried okra, almost a good as the catfish fillets! My advice for folks who might be considering making the short drive from Oxford down to Taylor Grocery: Do as the Romans do. Get on the bench and get on it at least ½ hour before they open. Cash is welcome, credit cards are also accepted. No beer, wine or other alcohol, but they do serve soft drinks and tea in humongous sized glasses and to boot, refill them about every 74 seconds! I was not able to find the bottom of my glass no matter how hard I tried!

Catfish is good however the owners daughter has to be the most miserable person on earth. Watched her berate a customer then say horrible things about her when the customer calmly walked back out to wait. It’s obvious “Sarah” doesn’t read these reviews because many people have encountered the same situation. Wont go back and I would not recommend this place to anyone given the way she treats folks. Wait staff is very nice, btw. But “Sarah” is a looming black cloud over the entire experience.Oxford has amazing places with the nicest staff to spend your money. Don’t waste your time and chance a miserable experience….there are way better options.

We eat here 2 or 3 times a month. Never had a bad experience. Only place local that can cook my steak to medium rare perfection!

We stopped in with a party of 11 after a funeral. We had to wait until the whole party got there to be seated, which I understand. I told the hostess when they arrived in the parking lot and she gave us two 6-seater tables back to back. The first of us got seated as the others unloaded kids from the car and headed to the building. The hostess walked by our table and told me if another group got there before they walked inside she was giving the second table away. A party of two walked up right before our other members walked in and she seated them at our second table. The other members of our party walked in immediately after the party of two was seated and the hostess yelled at my Mom and told her that is how they did things and we could pull up 6 more chairs at our 6 seater table if we wanted to stay or we could leave. She was absolutely hateful and should be ashamed of herself. Our waitress lost out on a party of 11 because of the hostesses hateful behavior and we will never go back.

On the day we buried my mama, my family went to meet at Taylor Grocery for dinner after the service. Not only did the waitress not allow my sister to be seated at the second table, she yelled and tried to humiliate my sister. NEVER will my family grace the doors of this place. Horrid person. I hope they lose all their business. It doesn't cost anything to be a good human being!
