“Shoutout to O'Reillys for having the part I needed in stock! I was having a weird issue on my 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis where the AC compressor clutch refused to stay engaged, even though the AC system itself was fine. It turns out the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) was cutting the AC power because of a bad Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor. I picked up a Standard Motor Products TX61 sensor here, swapped it out on the intake crossover pipe, bled the cooling system, and the AC compressor instantly stayed engaged and works perfectly now. If your Ford/Mercury 4.6L AC is acting up, check your gray ECT sensor! (NOTE TO SELF... There are two sensors located on the cross over pipe. One is the actual coolant temp sensor, the other is the sending unit for the temp gauge. Make sure you select the correct one) Thank you Matthew!”
