Updated Review: A Deeply Disappointing Experience from Start to Finish
At first, everything seemed great. Communication about the car I wanted was prompt and friendly. I live in Kansas City and drove down on a Saturday morning to test drive and purchase the vehicle. I arrived at 9 a.m. and was shown the car, which I loved — but it was neither clean nor detailed. I was never told ahead of time that the car wouldn’t be ready that day. I later learned it would take another full week before I could pick it up.
I asked to look at other vehicles to compare options, but was told I could look, not test drive. Despite this, I decided to move forward with purchasing the car I’d already driven.
When I returned the following Saturday to pick it up, the car still wasn’t ready.
Thankfully, one of the salesmen quickly tried to locate it and discovered it hadn’t been detailed yet. It took another three hours to complete. After already waiting a week, this was extremely frustrating and disappointing.
Fast forward to today — I learned there was a lien on my car, which delayed receiving my title. This was never disclosed at the time of purchase. I was told the title would arrive by last Friday, but it didn’t come that day, or the next, or even the following Sunday. I had to personally request tracking information, and as of now, I’m still waiting. My temporary tags expire tomorrow. The response I received? I was told to drive the car anyway and that if I got a ticket, they’d pay for it. That suggestion alone speaks volumes.
This entire experience has been one disappointment after another. I had heard wonderful things about Joe Machens, and I was genuinely excited to buy from them — but I can no longer recommend this dealership.
A Year and a Half Later:
Unfortunately, my frustration hasn’t ended. My car has been parked in my garage since August due to multiple unresolved issues — a lower a arm issue, a back left tire sensor malfunction, and several recalls. A trusted mechanic recently quoted me $2,200 in repairs, none of which are covered under my warranty.
Looking back, I am most disappointed in myself for trusting this dealership and the salesman who seemed more focused on finalizing a sale and heading out on vacation than ensuring a satisfied customer.
This entire experience has been a nightmare — from the sale to the service to the long-term reliability of the car itself. I truly wish it had been different.

I purchased a used car for my daughter two months ago and my partner and I purchased a new CX50 recently. Was fortunate enough to have Marcel as our sales person on my first purchase and made sure to ask for her on my second. Car buying is tense and unpleasant usually but Macel made us feel so comfortable and relaxed. Made a great decision as a result on our new CX50. Which we are absolutely loving. Shawn the finance person was great to work with as well.

Wish I could give a better review however the service department does not listen to you. I went in for 2 issues and they continued to try and find the easiest solutions. Regardless of how many times I told them the battery was not the issue on my car they would not discuss it with me or look any farther. They also do not reply to emails and they barely reply over text.

I had the pleasure of working with Marcell Kyle while shopping for a new vehicle. I will recommend Marcell to anyone shopping for a new or used car in the Columbia area. Honesty and kindness are the traits to have in this business and Marcell has both. Definitely a Five Star salesperson!

Love my new Mazda!
My car buying experience at Mazda @ Columbia was wonderful. Kendrick in the sales department is enthusiastic about his job and truly knowledgeable about the brand. So glad he was my salesman as he made it a good experience. Shawn in the finance department was also great. And lastly, Mike in the shop helped me out when I had bad luck with a tire.
As a woman that went in by herself to buy a car, I can say I didn’t get that “taken advantage” feeling that does sometimes happen. I highly recommend this dealership as they offer excellent customer service and a quality brand.
Ask for Kendrick!

Marcell Kyle was our sales associate this past Saturday 8/2. Best experience I've had at a car dealership hands down, simple and smooth. Marcell was awesome to work with! Knew what we were looking for and pulled up a Mazda that checked all the boxes for my wife. Easy to talk to and a great personality. 10/10 We will be back.

My experience here was wonderful. I have 0 complaints. My salesman Kendrick was great and never pushed, only supported! He was patient and helped me make a hard decision. Damarcus was very pleasant to talk with while we got financing done. I was there all day, but I left with a beautiful car and had nice conversation & experience with every one!

Osman, my salesman was excellent to work with. Never did I feel pressured to buy right then, he completely understood that I need time to think it over. Everyone there made sure that I had all the information that I needed to make my decision. They also went above and beyond to find me the exact vehicle that I wanted.

Great customer service from our salesperson, Marcell. She was very upbeat and easy to work with. Her manager was a little condescending but our interaction with him was limited so it didn't taint the experience too much. Shawn, the finance guy was also great. Overall it was a good car buying experience

Salesman Dmarkus Cain was amazing. He didn’t rush the sale. He utilized all his resources to find the exact vehicle I requested and at the price point I was looking for. My time was limited so he went the extra mile and sent all the documents to my email so I didn’t have to spend hours at the dealership. This makes the second vehicle I have purchased from Dmarkus and I hope he is still in sales when I’m ready to purchase my third. Fantastic salesman!

Mareell was amazing! i wasn't planning to buy a car but somehow she convinced me to come back when i'm in the right spot. i will 100% be buying my mazda through her she was absolutely amazing and helped he with any questions i had! she deserves more than just 5 stars!
