“The following experience still occurred but after an encounter of chance with a member of this church named Matthew Kinder, I can not in good conscience give this a negative review. He shared true kindness with us.
My wife and I are on a cross country cycling trip and arrived in Dexter today after a 60 mile bike ride. The last 10 miles of which was in a torrential rain. So far in our experience churches have been a place to seek refuge. Apparently that is not the case with First Baptist Dexter. I called and spoke with some one named Janet. I received no last name or job title. I did introduce myself and my wife and asked if we could simply camp on the property. After being seemingly taken aback Janet asked me to hold while she asked a pastor. After waiting on hold for 3 to 4 minutes the call ended with no reply. I gave it a few moments, figuring it was just a mistake and that she would call back soon. I called back and the phone rang until it would ring no more to no answer. I received no call, not even to reply no. After trying a few more churches, I figured it wouldn't be a bad idea to call again. I did, Janet answered again most likely not realizing it was the same number. When i said who I was, she told me there was no pastor around to ask. To which I replied and I reckon you don't have a number for him. Her response was that she wasn't going to call him once he had gone home.
Now maybe it's because I'm from KY, but a pastor is supposed to support his flock in all times. If he can't be bothered by a phone call and a question then I'm not sure what to say about that. But if I had my guess it would be THAT JANET Had no interest in helping us. This is why I'm giving this rating and response. Thank you for your assistance First Baptist Dexter. You are literally the first bad experience we have had with a church so far on our trip.”
