We moved long distance in the fall of 2022 with Mohawk United Van Lines. The entire experience was frustrating and protracted. Our items were mishandled. The unloaders were hired from a facebook add, and were inexperienced. There were 110 articles damaged. It took five months to complete the claims process. It took two weeks for United to contact the company performing the repairs and would not even talk to us about the unrepairable items needing replacement until after the repairs were complete. There were 8 items damaged beyond repair. We were assigned to a "claims team", never a person. We didn't know who we were dealing with and was very impersonal. The initial settlement offer was well below the value of the items and some items were not "covered" claiming United was not responsible. We purchased the replacement value insurance which states United will replace the item with "like kind and quality". They offered us 50% of the replacement value on high dollar items and said it was their policy to only offer half of the value despite us having the full replacement insurance. When we refused the settlement offer, we had to wait two weeks for a response. Their second offer provided replacement for the smaller value items (<$200) and did not address the high dollar items. Multiple times we had to provide "proof" of the replacement value and the "like/kind" of the broken item. We provided item descriptions, sent pictures, resent pictures with measurements, reiterating we had purchased the replacement insurance. Within 24 hours of hearing from the "claims team" we would respond with requested information and then wait two weeks to hear back. The fourth offer on the claim met the full replacement value. This process is intended to wear people down and save United from having to fully reimburse its customers. We will never use United Van Lines again and will be sure to tell everyone we know of our experience.

I have been a driver for 13 years and I have a spotless record. Including my training company, I have only been with 4 companies in my 13 years. Low pay and micro managing are a killer for drivers. This company has mangers in place that do exactly that

We had a huge move, stuffed a 53' truck with everything we own, and got it safely home, down a narrow winding lane. Darnell and Wentzell were amazing. I'd trust them with any job.

Terrible experience with my move. Damaged caused to my new construction home and missing items. Lack of communication and follow up from the team. First and last time using them.

For anyone using these moving companies, their using laborers off Craigslist to help move your belongings. They don't know those guys from a can of paint. They offer them low wages so they can pocket the rest. I'm very disappointed in finding this out. If you want to be charged alot of money then have your things smashed packed on a truck then moved by some local addict then UVL is your place . Just an whistle-blower. P.S alot of these reviews are being paid out by companies to be able to have a good rating so buyer's beware

This is the absolute worst moving company you could hire. Three boxes of my most expensive items did not show up and multiple items were damaged. They refused to compensate me for the lost items. $5000 worth of damage / lost items and they offers me $575 in compensation. Do not use this company.

By far the WORST of my 6 major move experiences. 1. United pitches a unified move experience different than brokers or small operators. Epic fail on multiple accounts. 2. Subcontracted packers damaged the floor of the home we were moving out of, then LIED (provably) about it. 3. Subcontracted un-loaders damaged the floor of the home we moved into. None of the floor damage in either place should have happened. I requested and emphasized multiple times verbally and in writing the need to cover floors so as not to damage the wood. I was PROMISED multiple times that this would be handled. Particularly at the move-in destination, the driver & team showed up with insufficient materials to cover the areas needing to be covered (walking paths) nor did they have any runners for stairs. Additionally the owner of the un-loading company was late and spent most of her time bitching about our requirement that the floors be protected and the challenges of being a small business owner. 4. United removed the credit for variance in weight from the final bid but indicated both verbally and in writing that the load would still be weighed and I would be provided with the weight. Reneged upon. 5. United had a move coordination team but they were not useful. No initial call was set up because .. !! their phones were down. So communication started and continued in email - which was useful as far as "he said / she said" but introduced delays. And they could not accurately advise when we needed to be ready to have the driver be at the house. 6. They did not consistently label boxes at the source, so many ended up in the wrong room. And I don't mean small mistakes - for example, large ceramic pots from the garage & outside the old house ended up in the kitchen of my new house. 7. I ended up with a tote from somebody *else's* move. Reported it to the driver within 30 days - never heard anything. Reported it again as part of the insurance damage claim - never heard anything. 8. I will say on a positive note that nothing of sentimental value was damaged. All damage to goods could be addressed and was paid for through the insurance claim. Otherwise - all attempts at addressing the issues at the time of occurrence were insufficient or non-existent.

When we contracted with United, we told them of the likelihood of needing storage for a period of time. We were assured that would not be a problem, that we only needed to let them know the exact delivery date and everything would be delivered on that date. When the furniture was delivered, the driver eventually told us that not all of our goods were on the truck. Even though everything was packed into one truck originally, United decided to divide our goods and deliver them in two shipments with no specified date for the balance of our goods. This was never mentioned as a possibility. It took about two weeks before they finally delivered the rest of our goods. When our goods did arrive, there were many crushed and damaged boxes. Wood table ends were damaged and scratched. The first item off the truck - a Fisher Price Play Kitchen was cracked and broken. This shows very poor handling, with little or no respect and consideration for our property. The second delivery was only a driver. He had to move everything himself. If anything was too large or heavy, he just had to do the best he could moving the items. No mats, runners, or floor coverings were put down to protect our floors, carpets, and walls for the second delivery.Aside from not keeping us informed of what to expect, they never mentioned the possibility of two separate shipping dates. Their attitude was one of “this is the way it will be”. Not knowing what was happening, and the condition of our property when it arrived, just added unnecessary stress and aggravation. I would certainly never use this carrier again.

Having used UVL twice in the past and never having any trouble, we decided to use them again for our move from Washington to Colorado. Our goods were promised sometime between June 6-15 so we arrived on June 4. We got an email on the 5th informing us our goods would now be arriving on June 27. On June 26th we got an email saying that only 90% of our goods would be delivered and that the other 10% would be delivered July 12! The missing 10% included things like our kitchen table top (they delivered the bottom), and clothes, shoes and various other important items. During all of this time our move coordinator was very blasé about it and very difficult to reach. It took days for her to return phone calls generally. Anytime after the 15th United paid us a whole $100 per day, wow! But on the 10% we had to wait so long on they only paid $10 per day for our troubles since 90% was already delivered- how generous - not. Once we were finally unpacked we called to have them come and remove our boxes and packing paper, something we were told upfront was included in our quote. We were then told they’d be happy to do that for an additional $175! We have never felt so taken advantage of in our entire lives. United Van Lines is certainly not the company it once was and I wouldn’t recommend them to my worst enemy. Steer clear of them!

I was moving from Connecticut to Florida and hired United van lines. They broke an exercise peddler I had, and more importantly lost 3 heirloom pictures that I had asked them to pack for me, so that they would arrive safely and with special care. Not only did they not arrive safely, they did not arrive at all! I was never given an inventory sheet to match up each item with its number, so it was impossible to ascertain that the items had not arrived until after the movers left. When they arrived, they said their van was too big to enter the park where I lived, so they made several trips loading up a car and then unloading it at my house. After I realized the pictures were missing, I received a run around of various departments to call after a variety of time lines. I still have not received my heirloom pictures that were painted over 100 years ago by a relative of mine. They are the most disorganized, incompetent company I have ever dealt with! RUN, don't walk away from using them for your moving needs! If I could give less than a 1 star rating, I would!

UPDATE: Still no delivery. It has been over 30 days without my belongings. Still no check has arrived even though we were told it would be expedited. DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE...I have had several corporate relocations, and personal and NEVER had my belongings kept in the original destination place for going on 3 weeks. We are couch surfing and staying in hotels at 60 years old and they will not compensate. This move was very expensive, over $12,000, and is costing me more each day.

I have moved more times in my life than I can remember. I have never had such a nightmare experience with a moving company than I have with United Van Lines and its affiliates. From the person doing the estimate not listening to instructions from me to making commitments that were not honored, they are untrustworthy and have no concept of customer service, let alone caring for the property they are moving. Nearly every piece of furniture has been broken or damaged. Dealing with their insurance is a nightmare, and even escalating the issue (as this amount of damage is WAY beyond normal) to the Office of the President, you just end up getting the brushoff. If I had to choose between using United Van Line and leaving all my property behind, I would leave everything behind. Given the thousands of dollars of damage and the actual cost of the move, it would have been less expensive to buy all new furniture and household goods. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!Just a couple photos of some of the damage to very solid and expensive furniture:

Unethical and unprofessional. Before my move, the salesman was very good at assuring me that my move, including a piano, would be treated with the same care that they would treat their own possessions. When they tried to deliver the piano, they damaged it (over $600), left it the garage, and told me to figure it out on my own. They also damaged other items, marked up the walls, and could have cared less about my possessions, because they weren't their possessions. When I tried to get reimbursed for completing what they agreed to do, they said that it was "impractical" and would neither pay for the other mover (using no specialized equipment) nor refund even a portion of what I paid for the move (over $10,000). And, the so helpful salesman, who convinced me to use United? He's never returned any of my calls. When you pay for a service, you expect to get that service, which United didn't complete. Beware of smooth talking salesmen and extremely fine print in moving contracts, which helps the moving company, but will never help you. I would never use United, again. And, if I could, then I would rate it as having minus "stars", because United has no ethics, caring more about money, then the customer.
