Wow! Too expensive I called to see about combining home and car I’m 60 almost not 22 my rate I was told was about 400 dollars I’ll stick with Geico! I asked why so expensive she rambled off some nonsense that made no sense. I think Don needs retirement money ! Geesh !!!! lol but frfr! The agent was nice but no thanks !

State Farm has really frustrated me in recent years. We had two cars, a camper, homeowners policy, a utility trailer and business equipment insurance all with Don Kersten. Actually, our family has been with this particular agent since 1975 way before my husband was born. Starting in 2020, State Farm started making it extremely difficult to stay with them.
First at our car insurance renewal, it became so unaffordable $600 a month for a vehicle and driver with NO claims due to "claims history on another vehicle and other drivers". When that happened and Don Kersten was unable to change that. Naturally, we shopped around and changed our two cars to Progressive for significantly cheaper than State Farm based on the same inaccurate CLUE report information. Then we decided to check our camper policy when it was up for renewal. Again our camper policy was significantly cheaper with Progressive so we changed that one over.
We still had our homeowners insurance policy with this office. We also incorporated a business in 2021 so we added the utility trailer insurance and business equipment insurance to our State Farm because those two policies were relatively affordable.
In 2023, we sold our home that State Farm had insured since 2005. Sure there had been a few claims, a roof in 2012 and a 2 claims on the major systems policy ryder in 2019 for a sewer line replacement and replacing a water heater. These 2019 claims equaled $4,417. Our annual homeowners policy premium for 2023-2024 was $2,329.
When I called the office to get a quote on the new home we were purchasing, literally State Farm said "No, it is ineligible due to claims history." Okay, insured for 18 years with barely any claims. We went with Berkshire Hathaway Guard Insurance Company with an annual premium of $1836. So significantly cheaper than State Farm again.
This week, I get a call and an email from Don Kersten's office inquiring about our address change notification from the post office and did we want to update our homeowners policy mailing address for the house we sold??? What?! Why is the policy active when we no longer own the house?
Two different members of Don's team said State Farm needs needs closing documentation from the sale of the home to prove you sold the house in September. Okay sure, emailed documents over. Get a response, all of these forms are dated before the actual close date because the buyer closed before we did. More documents were requested with the actual close date on it. I sent over one page because I really don't want to scan ALL the closing documents because that paperwork is THICK and I have better things to do with my time. How hard can it possibly be to cancel a policy on a home no longer own with a company that decided THEY didn't want to insure us? The house we sold has since sold again so what does State Farm think is going to happen? The closed escrow account on a paid off mortgage on a house we no longer own is going to pay them in August 2024? We are cancelling our business insurance and utility trailer insurance at our renewal in March because our business is changing and those policies are a bit redundant. That did not require any paperwork so that way easy at least.
We just want cancel ALL our policies!!! The reason for 2 stars is because Don Kersten and his staff are good at communicating but it is more the State Farm corporate policies that local agents have no control over that is the issue.

Been with State Farm for 30 YEARS, ZERO CLAIMS!!!! Filed my first claim over a MONTH AGO due to hail/storm damage to our roof. Have not heard a single word from this office! No emails, no phone calls, nobody has come to our house to personally access the damage (like agents used to in the old days) etc etc. NOBODY from this office has contacted us in any way shape or form. They DO NOT CARE about the customers who contribute towards their paychecks! You should be ashamed of yourselves! You reply to positive comments in your reviews but you don’t reply to the negative ones…….actions speak louder than words!UPDATE: Replying to State Farm’s comment……..I am well aware that State Farm agents DO NOT come out and assess the damage, that’s the adjusters job, but, back in the day, the agent would come to the property and personally discuss damages with their client, you know, back when agents would get personally involved in any and every issue their client may have……but those days are clearly over, sadly! Also, I DID NOT harass or personally attack anyone, I merely spoke the truth, and sometimes, the truth hurts! And you’re telling me that if have any questions that I should give you a call? WOW……shouldn’t YOU or someone from your office called ME over a month ago when I filed my claim?!!!Again, in the old days, when insurance agents personally cared about their clients, they would go above and beyond for them……..you can’t even pickup a phone and make a call. Again, actions speak louder than words! Joe Dark, my agent in St. Joseph for nearly 30yrs, before he passed away, always checked on us periodically throughout the year every year and sometimes even coming by our house, just to say “hey”. That was back when they cared. Again, NOBODY from your office has contacted me since we filed our claim……NOBODY!

Don Kersten has been my agent for over 20 years, long enough that my adult children have also followed suit. I have referred my friends, family and anyone else who needs an agent to him. We have suffered through car accidents and home issues. My experiences with Don have been met with sincere compassion and a swiftness to help resolve the issues. Don has proven to me over and over that he loves his job but more importantly loves people and will do whatever is in his power to help.I highly recommend him!

Because I can't give a "0"! They are only out for your money and their bottom line. Use a different agent! Use a different Company! The only person who did a good job there left, so now you are at the mercy of the remaining staff. Messed up my bill 4+ months in a row and took at least $800 extra than what I should have paid. Did I get a refund or a correction check? NO! Did they offer? NO! Horrible experience.
